Ripcord Ratchet Arrow Rest 1005289 Review

First Impressions of Ripcord Ratchet Arrow Rest 1005289

The Ripcord Ratchet Arrow Rest 1005289 promises a blend of reliability and precision, and after a decade spent tinkering with bows and chasing game across varied terrains, that’s a promise that demands scrutiny. The RIPCORD brand has a decent reputation, and this model boasts features like a full-capture cage and micro-adjustable launcher, elements that pique the interest of any serious archer. I was eager to see if it could live up to the hype.

I’ve always been chasing that perfect balance between forgiveness and accuracy in an arrow rest. The flimsier, less expensive rests often introduce inconsistencies, while the ultra-high-end models sometimes feel overly complicated for the average hunting scenario. I was hoping the Ripcord Ratchet Arrow Rest 1005289 would hit that sweet spot of reliable performance without breaking the bank or requiring a degree in mechanical engineering to set up.

Out of the box, the Ripcord Ratchet Arrow Rest 1005289 has a solid feel. The black finish is clean, and the components seem well-machined. It feels robust enough to handle the rigors of backcountry hunts, but not overly heavy.

Compared to a Whisker Biscuit, which is bombproof but can scrub speed, and a QAD UltraRest, which offers incredible accuracy but can be finicky, the Ripcord Ratchet Arrow Rest 1005289 seemed to offer a balanced approach. I picked this one hoping for the accuracy of a drop-away with a bit more ruggedness and ease of setup. My initial excitement was definitely tempered with a healthy dose of skepticism, as many rests promise the world but deliver only mediocrity.

Real-World Testing: Putting Ripcord Ratchet Arrow Rest 1005289 to the Test

First Use Experience

My first outing with the Ripcord Ratchet Arrow Rest 1005289 was at my local archery range, followed by a weekend scouting trip in the foothills of the Rockies. I wanted to test it in a controlled environment before subjecting it to the unpredictable conditions of a real hunt. Setup was surprisingly easy, thanks to the no bow press required installation.

The range was relatively dry and calm, but the foothills presented a mix of conditions: some light rain, dusty trails, and fluctuating temperatures. I noticed the limb-driven mechanism worked smoothly even after getting splashed with mud. I appreciate that the Ripcord Ratchet Arrow Rest 1005289 required minimal adjustments after the initial setup; it was more or less ready to shoot right away.

Using the Ripcord Ratchet Arrow Rest 1005289 didn’t take much getting used to. I appreciated the full-capture cage when navigating through dense brush. My only initial concern was the activation cord, which I made sure was securely fastened.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of consistent use, the Ripcord Ratchet Arrow Rest 1005289 has proven to be a reliable performer. I’ve taken it on multiple hunts in varying weather conditions, and it hasn’t skipped a beat. It has been tested in temperatures ranging from below freezing to nearly 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

There are some minor signs of wear on the finish, particularly around the cage where arrows are loaded, but nothing that impacts performance. The Ripcord Ratchet Arrow Rest 1005289 has stood up remarkably well to the abuse of being strapped to my bow while hiking through thick timber and rocky terrain. I’ve found it to be surprisingly durable.

Cleaning is simple: a quick wipe down with a damp cloth and a light lubrication of the moving parts keeps it functioning smoothly. Compared to my previous rest, which required frequent adjustments and cleaning to maintain accuracy, the Ripcord Ratchet Arrow Rest 1005289 is a low-maintenance dream. It definitely outperforms my expectations for a rest in this price range.

The ability to attach the activation cord to either the upper or lower limb provides a degree of customization for different bow setups. The rest is compatible with most aftermarket dampening accessories, allowing users to further reduce noise and vibration. This is a huge plus for those who like to fine-tune their setup for specific hunting scenarios.
