In the world of shotgun ammunition, consistency, reliability, and value are paramount. The Rio Ammunition TGHV36TX-7/9 12Gauge 2.75″ 7/9Shot 25 Per Box/10 Case
27% Off promises to deliver all three, offering a blend of performance and affordability that’s hard to ignore. This particular load caught my eye because of its versatility, designed for both target shooting and hunting applications, bridging the gap with its mixed 7/9 shot payload.
I needed a reliable and affordable shotshell for clay shooting and occasional upland bird hunting. The promise of a consistent pattern and a price point that wouldn’t break the bank immediately piqued my interest.
The first thing I noticed upon receiving the case was the sturdy packaging. The shells themselves looked clean and well-assembled, suggesting a commitment to quality control. The vibrant blue hulls gave them a distinct look, setting them apart from the typical red or green shells on the market.
Compared to Winchester AA or Federal Gold Medal, which are premium target loads, the Rio Ammunition offers a more economical option. I chose the Rio over Estate Super Sport as Rio is a globally respected ammo manufacturer. My decision was based on Rio’s reputation for consistent performance and the attractive price point, especially with the 27% discount.
My initial impression was one of cautious optimism. I was eager to see if the Rio Ammunition could live up to the hype and deliver the performance I needed without sacrificing reliability or breaking the bank.

First Use Experience
I primarily tested the Rio Ammunition TGHV36TX-7/9 at my local shooting range, focusing on trap and skeet. I also took it out for a dove hunt in a relatively dry, early-season setting.
The shells performed admirably in both environments, even with a slight breeze present at the range. Recoil was manageable in my 12-gauge over-under, and cycling was smooth in my semi-automatic. No failures to eject or misfires occurred.
The Rio Ammunition proved easy to load and consistently patterned well. After the first use, I noticed a small amount of plastic fouling in the barrels, typical for many shotshells.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of consistent use, I’ve put several hundred rounds of the Rio Ammunition TGHV36TX-7/9 through my shotguns. They’ve held up remarkably well.
Durability has been excellent, with no noticeable degradation in performance. Cleaning has been straightforward, with standard shotgun cleaning supplies removing any residue.
Compared to my experiences with some budget brands, the Rio Ammunition has exceeded my expectations in terms of consistent performance and reliability. They cycle just as well as premium brands.
