Real Avid/Revo Gun Boss Pro AR15 Rifle Cleaning Kit Review

The Real Avid/Revo Gun Boss Pro AR15 Rifle Cleaning Kit Made a Bold First Impression

The Real Avid/Revo Gun Boss Pro AR15 Rifle Cleaning Kit promises to be a comprehensive solution for maintaining the workhorse of American firearms, the AR-15. As someone who’s seen countless cleaning kits come and go over the last decade, I was intrigued by Real Avid’s claim of a virtually indestructible case and organized tool layout. This kit aims to keep your rifle operating at peak performance, and I intended to find out if it lived up to the hype.

For years, I’ve relied on a mishmash of brushes, rods, and solvents scattered across my workbench. Finding the right tool often felt like an archeological dig. My frustration stemmed from wanting a streamlined, reliable cleaning system for my AR-15s, something that could easily transition from the workbench to the range bag.

The moment I held the Real Avid/Revo Gun Boss Pro AR15 Rifle Cleaning Kit I immediately appreciated the compact, rugged polycarbonate case. It felt solid in my hands, not flimsy like some of the cheaper plastic kits I’ve encountered. The kickstand feature was a clever addition, allowing the case to stand upright for easy access during cleaning.

Compared to my old disorganized kit, the Real Avid offered a promise of order. I also considered the Otis Technology cleaning kit, known for its flexible cable system, and a generic bore snake option for quick cleanings. I ultimately chose the Gun Boss Pro because it seemed to strike a balance between portability, comprehensive cleaning ability, and durability.

My first impression was definitely positive. The Real Avid/Revo Gun Boss Pro AR15 Rifle Cleaning Kit seemed well-thought-out. It promised to bring order and efficiency to my AR-15 maintenance routine.

Real-World Testing: Putting Real Avid/Revo Gun Boss Pro AR15 Rifle Cleaning Kit to the Test

First Use Experience

My first opportunity to test the Real Avid/Revo Gun Boss Pro AR15 Rifle Cleaning Kit came after a particularly dusty day at the range. We were running drills with my AR-15 chambered in .223/5.56, and the rifle was noticeably gritty afterwards. I set up the cleaning kit on the tailgate of my truck, the kickstand providing a stable platform.

The Real Avid/Revo Gun Boss Pro AR15 Rifle Cleaning Kit proved surprisingly easy to use. The clearly labeled tools eliminated any guesswork, and the snap-in design kept everything organized. The ergonomic handle felt comfortable in my hand, providing good leverage for scrubbing the bore.

The only minor issue I encountered was with the bore illuminator, which I initially struggled to position effectively. It took a moment to figure out the optimal angle for viewing the bore’s interior, but once I did, it was a helpful addition. Otherwise, the first cleaning experience was smooth and efficient.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several weeks of regular use, the Real Avid/Revo Gun Boss Pro AR15 Rifle Cleaning Kit has held up remarkably well. The polycarbonate case still looks new, despite being tossed around in my range bag and truck bed. There are no signs of cracking or wear on the case itself.

The brass rods have proven to be sturdy and reliable. I’ve cleaned multiple rifles with them, and they still thread together tightly without any wobble. The bronze and nylon brushes also show minimal wear, even after scrubbing through some heavily fouled barrels.

The Real Avid kit is very easy to maintain. I simply wipe down the tools after each use and occasionally clean the brushes with solvent. Compared to my previous assortment of cleaning supplies, this kit has significantly reduced the time and effort required for rifle maintenance and is still outperforming the previous items.

Breaking Down the Features of Real Avid/Revo Gun Boss Pro AR15 Rifle Cleaning Kit

Specifications

The Real Avid/Revo Gun Boss Pro AR15 Rifle Cleaning Kit is specifically designed for AR-15 rifles chambered in .223/5.56. It includes a variety of tools to clean all critical parts of the rifle. The kit comes in a durable polycarbonate case with a kickstand feature for easy access.

• Brass Rods: These form a 29-inch cleaning rod when assembled, providing ample length for most AR-15 barrel lengths. The 8-32 threads ensure a secure connection.
• .223/5.56 Bore Brush: This bronze brush is specifically designed to remove fouling from the bore of an AR-15. The bronze material is effective at removing carbon buildup without damaging the steel barrel.
• Star Chamber Brush: This brush is designed to clean the hard-to-reach star chamber area of the AR-15. This brush ensures proper chamber function.
• Bolt Carrier Brush: Designed to clean the inside of the bolt carrier. This is important for reliable cycling.
• Hooked Steel Cleaning Pick: This pick is useful for removing stubborn carbon deposits from various parts of the rifle. The hooked design allows for precise cleaning in tight spaces.
• 3-in-1 Bore Illuminator/Pin Punch/Safety Flag: This multi-tool combines three essential functions into one compact design. The bore illuminator allows for easy inspection of the bore, while the pin punch aids in disassembly. It also functions as a safety flag.
• Wool Star Chamber Cleaning Pads (6): These pads are designed for use with a cleaning solvent to thoroughly clean the star chamber. The wool material is absorbent and effective at removing residue.
• Cleaning Patches (50): These patches are used with the slotted tip to clean the bore after brushing. The patches are made of a material that effectively absorbs solvents and removes fouling.
• Nylon Slotted Tip: The slotted tip secures the cleaning patches to the rod. The nylon material prevents scratching the barrel.
• Tap Hammer Surface: The ergonomic handle includes a tap hammer surface for light tapping during disassembly or reassembly. This feature is convenient for field maintenance.

These specifications are vital for maintaining the functionality and accuracy of the AR-15. A clean rifle is a reliable rifle.
