Primal Treestands Mac Daddy Xtra Wide Ladderstand Review

First Impressions of Primal Treestands Mac Daddy Xtra Wide Ladderstand

The Primal Treestands Mac Daddy Xtra Wide Ladderstand promises comfort, stability, and safety for the serious hunter, and that’s exactly what caught my eye. As someone who spends countless hours in the woods each season, I need a stand that can withstand the elements and provide a secure and comfortable hunting platform.

My aging knees were begging for a solution that offered both a stable shooting platform and a comfortable seat for those long, patient sits. I was specifically looking for a ladder stand with an extra-wide platform and seat, prioritizing comfort and stability above all else.

The stand arrived partially assembled, and my initial impression was that it was built like a tank, with substantial steel tubing making up the ladder and platform. The Textilene seat looked comfortable and durable, and the overall construction seemed solid. Compared to cheaper, flimsier ladder stands I’ve used in the past, the Mac Daddy Xtra Wide immediately felt like a significant upgrade in terms of build quality and stability. I ultimately chose it over the Millennium L110 and the Rivers Edge Lockdown 21′ because of the Primal Treestands’ patented Back Bone Stabilizer Truss System and Grip Jaw System, promising superior stability and safety during setup and use. I was excited by the promise of a safer, more comfortable hunting experience, and my first impression was one of cautious optimism.

Real-World Testing: Putting Primal Treestands Mac Daddy Xtra Wide Ladderstand to the Test

First Use Experience

I put the Primal Treestands Mac Daddy Xtra Wide Ladderstand to the test on a week-long deer hunting trip in the rugged hills of Pennsylvania. I set it up near a well-worn game trail overlooking a secluded valley, a prime spot for observing deer movement.

The weather was typical for late fall – cold, damp, and occasionally windy. Despite the challenging conditions, the ladder stand felt surprisingly stable, even in gusts of wind, thanks to the Back Bone Stabilizer Truss System. The extra-wide platform was a game-changer, providing ample room to maneuver and preventing the cramped feeling I’ve experienced in smaller stands. The Textilene seat was comfortable even after hours of sitting, and I appreciated the padded armrests and adjustable shooting rail. I was initially concerned about the weight of the stand during setup, but the Grip Jaw System made securing it to the tree relatively easy.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of use throughout the hunting season, the Primal Treestands Mac Daddy Xtra Wide Ladderstand has proven to be a reliable and durable piece of equipment. Despite being exposed to rain, snow, and freezing temperatures, the stand shows no signs of rust or corrosion, and all the components remain sturdy and functional.

The Textilene seat has held up well with no signs of wear and tear. While the ladderstand is fairly heavy, it’s a one-time setup, and the benefits in stability and comfort far outweigh the initial effort. A quick wipe-down with a damp cloth after each use is all it takes to keep the stand clean and in good working order. This stand has significantly outperformed other cheaper ladder stands I’ve used, offering a level of comfort and stability I didn’t think possible.
