First Impressions of Primal Treestands Double Vantage Ladderstand
The Primal Treestands Double Vantage Ladderstand promises a comfortable and secure hunting experience for two. Primal Treestands, a name synonymous with affordable and reliable hunting gear, aims to deliver a spacious and sturdy platform for hunters of all skill levels. With its focus on providing ample room and a stable shooting base, the Double Vantage Ladderstand piqued my interest as I sought to upgrade my existing single-person stand for shared hunts with my son.
I’ve been primarily a solo hunter for years, but with my son now old enough to join me, I needed a stand that could comfortably and safely accommodate us both. My main concern was finding a stand that didn’t compromise on stability or comfort while offering enough space for two individuals to maneuver. After countless hours of research and comparing different models, the Primal Treestands Double Vantage Ladderstand seemed like the perfect fit, offering a balance of space, stability, and affordability.
The stand arrived securely packaged. Upon unboxing, my initial impression was positive, noting the heavy-gauge steel construction and the generous platform size. The powder coat finish looked durable and the included safety straps seemed robust. Compared to other ladder stands I’ve used, the Double Vantage appeared to offer a wider and more comfortable seat.
I was deciding between this stand, the Millennium L220 Double Ladder Stand, and the Rivers Edge Lockdown 2-Man Ladder Stand. I chose the Primal Treestands Double Vantage Ladderstand due to its competitive price point and the Primal Treestands reputation for building reliable gear. The Millennium stand seemed excessively expensive for my needs, and the Rivers Edge model had some user reviews citing concerns about the seat comfort.
Overall, I was excited about the potential of the Primal Treestands Double Vantage Ladderstand. The build quality appeared solid, and the design seemed well thought out. I was eager to put it to the test in the field.
Real-World Testing: Putting Primal Treestands Double Vantage Ladderstand to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the Primal Treestands Double Vantage Ladderstand on a ten-day whitetail hunt in the rolling hills of southeastern Ohio. The terrain was a mix of hardwood forests and open fields, providing diverse hunting opportunities. Setting up the stand required two people and took about an hour, primarily due to ensuring proper stabilization and secure attachment to the tree.
The weather during the hunt was varied, ranging from dry and sunny days to cold, rainy mornings. The Double Vantage performed admirably in all conditions, providing a stable and secure platform, even in gusty winds. The wide seat and backrests offered surprising comfort for extended sits, though adding seat cushions improved the experience even further. One minor issue I encountered was the ladder sections occasionally squeaking when climbing, which could potentially alert nearby game.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of use throughout the hunting season, the Primal Treestands Double Vantage Ladderstand has held up remarkably well. There are no signs of significant wear and tear. The powder coat finish has resisted rust and scratches, even after exposure to rain and snow.
Cleaning the stand is relatively straightforward, involving simply wiping down the frame with a damp cloth after each use. I’ve also applied a light coat of oil to the ladder joints to minimize squeaking and ensure smooth operation. Compared to some cheaper stands I’ve used in the past, the Double Vantage feels significantly more durable and reliable. It instills confidence when you’re 20 feet up in a tree.
