Let’s Dive into Plano Double Sided Satchel
The Plano Double Sided Satchel is a tackle box designed to maximize space and organization for anglers. Manufactured by Plano, a trusted name in fishing storage solutions, this satchel boasts a double-sided design and 19 compartments, all viewable through clear DuraView lids. I’ve been in the outdoor and tactical gear game for over a decade, and finding efficient and durable storage solutions is always a priority, whether for ammo, first aid supplies, or, in this case, fishing tackle.
My fishing gear was overflowing from a mishmash of smaller boxes, creating a frustrating jumble. I needed a solution that provided ample space and quick visibility of my lures and tackle. When I saw the Plano Double Sided Satchel, its double-sided storage and clear lids immediately appealed to me, promising to address these organizational woes.
Upon unboxing, the satchel felt surprisingly robust for its size. The plastic felt durable, and the latches seemed secure. The DuraView lids provided a clear view of the compartments, which gave a good impression of being able to quickly identify my gear.
Compared to other tackle boxes I’ve used, like the single-sided Flambeau or the larger, more cumbersome tackle bags from Shimano, the Plano Double Sided Satchel struck a good balance between capacity and portability. The Flambeau lacked the necessary space, and the Shimano bag was overkill for shorter trips. I chose the Plano Double Sided Satchel because it offered the best compromise of organizational space, visibility, and easy carry.
My initial excitement was high. The layout appeared perfect for separating different types of lures and terminal tackle, offering a streamlined approach to organizing my fishing arsenal. I looked forward to seeing how it would perform on the water.
Real-World Testing: Putting Plano Double Sided Satchel to the Test
First Use Experience
My first outing with the Plano Double Sided Satchel was a weekend fishing trip to a local lake known for its bass and crappie. I used it to store a variety of crankbaits, spinnerbaits, hooks, weights, and swivels. The lake had some light rain during the day and it was easy to keep the Plano box dry.
The satchel performed admirably, keeping my tackle organized and readily accessible. The DuraView lids were incredibly useful, allowing me to quickly locate the lure I wanted without having to open every compartment. I didn’t need to get used to it, it was intuitive to use right away.
One minor issue arose during the trip: a few smaller hooks managed to migrate between compartments when the satchel was jostled around in the boat. I will need to consider the best way to organize very small items.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Plano Double Sided Satchel has held up remarkably well. There are no cracks or breaks in the plastic, and the latches still function securely. It has been exposed to sun, rain, and the occasional accidental drop on the dock.
The satchel has shown only minor signs of wear, mainly a few surface scratches on the plastic. Cleaning is a breeze, usually requiring just a quick wipe-down with a damp cloth. The plastic is resistant to staining, even after exposure to fish slime and dirt.
Compared to previous tackle boxes I’ve owned, the Plano Double Sided Satchel has exceeded my expectations in terms of durability and organization. Other brands quickly showed signs of wear and tear, and their storage solutions were often less efficient. This box is both durable and incredibly useful.
