Let’s Talk About Perko 1451DP8CHR Delta Series All Round Fold In Half Light 60″ Pole
The Perko 1451DP8CHR Delta Series All Round Fold In Half Light 60″ Pole is a crucial piece of safety equipment for any boater operating after dark. Manufactured by Perko, a trusted name in marine hardware, this light pole is designed to provide the required 360-degree visibility, ensuring your vessel is seen by others. This folding pole design offers a convenient storage solution when the light is not in use, making it a practical choice for boats of all sizes.
I needed a reliable and easily storable all-around light for my small fishing boat. Space is always at a premium, and a fixed-length pole was impractical for my needs. The Perko folding design seemed like the perfect solution.
Upon unboxing, the Perko light felt solid and well-made. The chrome finish on the brass components gave it a classic, durable feel. The pole sections felt sturdy, and the folding mechanism operated smoothly, inspiring confidence in its long-term reliability.
I considered a couple of other options, including a similar folding light from Attwood and a fixed-length LED option from West Marine. I chose the Perko primarily because of its reputation for quality and the traditional incandescent bulb, which, in my experience, offers a more consistent and visible light in fog or heavy rain than some LEDs. The folding design was also a major factor.
My first impression was positive. The Perko 1451DP8CHR Delta Series All Round Fold In Half Light 60″ Pole felt like a quality piece of equipment. I was eager to get it installed and test it out on the water.
Real-World Testing: Putting Perko 1451DP8CHR Delta Series All Round Fold In Half Light 60″ Pole to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the Perko 1451DP8CHR Delta Series All Round Fold In Half Light 60″ Pole on a late-evening fishing trip in a local lake. The weather was calm, but there was a slight haze, providing a good test for visibility. Installation was straightforward using a standard Perko base (sold separately).
The light performed admirably. Its 360-degree illumination was bright and easily visible from a distance. The pole remained stable even with some minor boat movement.
Initially, I was slightly concerned about the folding joint’s durability. However, after the first use, it felt secure, with no noticeable wobble or looseness. The light illuminated a wide area and I felt like I was easily seen by other boaters.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use (approximately twice a week), the Perko 1451DP8CHR Delta Series All Round Fold In Half Light 60″ Pole has held up remarkably well. The chrome finish shows no signs of corrosion, despite being exposed to freshwater spray. The folding mechanism still operates smoothly.
There have been no signs of wear and tear beyond some minor surface scratches. The pole continues to feel sturdy, and the light output remains consistent. I have replaced the 12-volt bulb once.
Maintenance is simple: a quick wipe down with a damp cloth after each use is all it needs. The Perko 1451DP8CHR Delta Series All Round Fold In Half Light 60″ Pole significantly outperforms a previous generic folding light I used, which quickly corroded and had a flimsy folding joint. This product has been excellent.
