The Pachmayr T550 TRAP MED BLK/WHITE LINE Made a Bold First Impression
The Pachmayr T550 TRAP MED BLK/WHITE LINE isn’t just a recoil pad; it’s a statement. Representing Pachmayr’s classic approach to trap shooting comfort, it promised a blend of functionality and a touch of old-school cool. I’ve been a competitive trap shooter for over a decade, constantly searching for that edge – that perfect balance of gun fit and recoil absorption.
Years of shouldering shotguns have taken their toll. I was experiencing increasing shoulder fatigue and a nagging flinch, impacting my scores. The search was on for a recoil solution that didn’t alter my gun’s balance significantly, but offered substantial comfort.
The Pachmayr pad arrived in simple packaging, revealing the black pad bisected by the iconic white line. Its weight felt substantial, suggesting durable construction, and the concave face was immediately appealing. This felt like a serious piece of gear.
I considered options from Kick-eez and Limbsaver, both reputable brands. I chose the Pachmayr because of its classic aesthetic and specific design for trap shooting, emphasizing cheek weld and consistent gun mount. The others felt too generic. I was excited to see if the Pachmayr T550 TRAP MED BLK/WHITE LINE could deliver on its promise of comfort and consistency.
Real-World Testing: Putting Pachmayr T550 TRAP MED BLK/WHITE LINE to the Test
First Use Experience
I mounted the Pachmayr T550 TRAP MED BLK/WHITE LINE on my Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon I, a dedicated trap gun, and headed to the range. It was a cool, slightly damp morning – typical Pacific Northwest weather. The first round was a revelation.
The pad immediately improved my cheek weld, providing a more secure and consistent mount. Recoil, while still present, felt significantly reduced, especially the sharp sting I’d been experiencing. I didn’t need a break after the first 25 shots.
The pad added a noticeable but manageable amount of length to pull. I was concerned about this, but my gun mount felt more consistent. The damp conditions didn’t affect the pad’s grip against my shoulder.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use, the Pachmayr T550 TRAP MED BLK/WHITE LINE has proven its worth. The pad shows minimal signs of wear, despite regular use and cleaning. It cleans easily with a damp cloth and mild soap.
The recoil reduction remains consistent, allowing me to shoot multiple rounds without significant fatigue. My scores have noticeably improved. This improvement is thanks to better focus and less anticipation of recoil.
Compared to other recoil pads I’ve used, the Pachmayr offers a superior balance of recoil absorption and cheek weld stability. It outperforms the harder, factory-installed pad significantly. The Pachmayr T550 TRAP MED BLK/WHITE LINE has become an essential part of my trap shooting setup, exceeding my initial expectations.
