Pachmayr Rack-It Slide Rack Assist Black Rubber Handgun Review

The Pachmayr Rack-It Slide Rack Assist Black Rubber Handgun Made a Bold First Impression

The Pachmayr Rack-It Slide Rack Assist Black Rubber Handgun isn’t exactly the kind of item that sets your heart racing. But for a specific group of shooters, it can be a total game-changer. Manufactured by Pachmayr, this little device promises to make racking a semi-automatic pistol slide significantly easier, especially for individuals with limited hand strength, arthritis, or smaller hands.

My interest in this product stemmed from teaching new shooters. I frequently encountered individuals struggling to rack the slide, particularly on compact pistols with stiff recoil springs. Other options like weaker springs can sacrifice reliability. The promise of a simple, adjustable tool that could overcome this obstacle was definitely appealing.

Upon unboxing, the Pachmayr Rack-It is a surprisingly robust piece of molded black rubber. It has a solid, reassuring feel. The build quality appears durable enough to withstand repeated use. Compared to improvised methods like using a belt or tabletop, the Rack-It seemed much more purpose-built and safer.

I initially considered other slide-assist tools, some of which were more permanent modifications to the firearm itself. I chose the Pachmayr Rack-It for its non-permanent nature, adjustability, and universal fit promise. My first impression was cautiously optimistic. I was eager to see if it lived up to its claims and helped those who struggle with standard slide manipulation.

Real-World Testing: Putting Pachmayr Rack-It Slide Rack Assist Black Rubber Handgun to the Test

First Use Experience

I tested the Pachmayr Rack-It at an outdoor shooting range with a group of new shooters. There were a variety of pistols involved, from full-size 9mms to compact .40 caliber handguns. The weather was dry, but it was a chilly day, which can exacerbate grip issues, especially for those with arthritis.

The Rack-It proved remarkably easy to use right out of the box. I simply slipped it over the muzzle of the handgun and adjusted it until it provided a secure grip on the slide. The increased leverage and gripping surface made racking even the stiffest slides significantly easier. Even those who had previously struggled were able to confidently manipulate their firearms.

The only issue I encountered was with a sub-compact pistol. The shorter slide length provided less surface area for the Rack-It to grip securely. The Pachmayr Rack-It is clearly designed more for full-size and compact handguns.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several weeks of regular use, the Pachmayr Rack-It Slide Rack Assist Black Rubber Handgun is holding up surprisingly well. There are no signs of tearing or cracking in the rubber, despite repeated use with a variety of handguns. The adjustment mechanism remains secure. It seems to be built to last.

Maintenance is incredibly simple. Any dirt or residue can easily be wiped off with a damp cloth. Compared to using improvised methods (which can damage the slide or surrounding surfaces), the Rack-It is a far superior and safer option. It has consistently outperformed any alternative methods I’ve used for assisting with slide racking.
