First Thoughts on the Pachmayr Presentation Grip Ruger Super Blackhawk
The Pachmayr Presentation Grip Ruger Super Blackhawk promises enhanced comfort and control for one of the most iconic single-action revolvers. As a seasoned outdoor and tactical gear specialist, I’ve come to appreciate the importance of a good grip, not just for comfort, but also for safety and accuracy. This grip aims to improve upon the factory grip, and I’m eager to see if it lives up to the Pachmayr reputation for quality.
My journey to this grip stemmed from a growing frustration with the felt recoil of my Super Blackhawk during extended range sessions. The factory grips, while functional, weren’t exactly forgiving on my hand after a hundred rounds of full-house .44 Magnum loads. I was searching for a grip that could mitigate some of that recoil and provide a more secure, comfortable hold, ultimately leading me to the Pachmayr Presentation Grip Ruger Super Blackhawk.
Unboxing the grip revealed a clean, straightforward design. The checkered rubber immediately felt grippy and offered a substantial upgrade over the stock wood. The weight felt comparable to the original grips, suggesting a solid, durable construction. I was initially excited by the promise of a more comfortable shooting experience.
Compared to alternatives like Hogue’s rubber grips or custom wood grips, I chose the Pachmayr Presentation Grip Ruger Super Blackhawk for its classic aesthetic and reputation for recoil absorption. Hogue grips can sometimes feel overly bulky, and custom wood grips, while beautiful, often prioritize aesthetics over practical recoil management. The Pachmayr offered a balance of both. My first impression was one of cautious optimism; it looked and felt like a quality product, but the real test would be how it performed on the range.
Real-World Testing: Putting Pachmayr Presentation Grip Ruger Super Blackhawk to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing ground was the local outdoor shooting range, a familiar environment where I could focus solely on the grip’s performance. I subjected the Pachmayr Presentation Grip Ruger Super Blackhawk to a variety of .44 Magnum loads, ranging from mild target rounds to heavy hunting loads. The weather was typical for a summer afternoon: hot and humid, which would put the grip’s tackiness to the test.
The difference was immediately noticeable. The checkered rubber provided a much more secure hold, even with sweaty hands. Recoil felt significantly reduced, allowing for faster follow-up shots and less fatigue. There was no need to “get used to” the Pachmayr Presentation Grip Ruger Super Blackhawk; it felt natural and intuitive from the first shot. One initial surprise was the improved pointability of the Super Blackhawk.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of use, including multiple range sessions and a hunting trip in the mountains, the Pachmayr Presentation Grip Ruger Super Blackhawk has proven to be a worthwhile addition to my Super Blackhawk. The grip has held up remarkably well. There are no signs of cracking, peeling, or significant wear and tear.
Cleaning and maintaining the Pachmayr Presentation Grip Ruger Super Blackhawk is incredibly simple. A quick wipe down with a damp cloth is usually sufficient to remove dirt and grime. Compared to the original wood grips, which required occasional oiling and polishing, the Pachmayr is virtually maintenance-free. The grip has definitely outperformed the factory grips in terms of comfort and recoil absorption. It makes shooting my Super Blackhawk significantly more enjoyable, especially during longer sessions.
