First Thoughts on the Pachmayr Full Signature Grip Browning Hi Power FG
The Pachmayr Full Signature Grip Browning Hi Power FG promises a tangible upgrade to a classic pistol. Pachmayr is a name synonymous with quality grips, and the “Full Signature” designation suggests a premium feel and improved control. For $36.99, the potential for enhanced ergonomics and aesthetics piqued my interest, particularly for a pistol with the legacy and handling nuances of the Browning Hi Power.
My journey to this grip was born from a desire to refine the handling of my Hi Power. The factory grips, while functional, lacked a certain tackiness and ergonomic contour that I craved for improved recoil management and overall comfort during extended range sessions. Having wrestled with slippery grips in adverse weather conditions before, a reliable grip is not just a luxury, but a necessity for confident and safe firearm handling.
Upon unboxing, the Pachmayr grips presented a simple yet reassuring presence. The checkered rubber immediately conveyed a sense of quality and tactile grip. The build quality appeared solid, with clean lines and precise molding, suggesting a direct drop-in fit.
Compared to Hogue’s wraparound rubber grips and the various wood grip options available, I chose the Pachmayr Full Signature Grip Browning Hi Power FG for its balance of classic aesthetics and modern functionality. Some grips are too aggressive for concealed carry. The promise of a full grip without excessive bulk, combined with the trusted Pachmayr reputation, sealed the deal.
My first impression was one of quiet confidence. This wasn’t a flashy, over-the-top modification, but a subtle yet significant upgrade poised to enhance the overall shooting experience. I was eager to see if the Pachmayr grips would live up to their promise of improved control and comfort.
Real-World Testing: Putting Pachmayr Full Signature Grip Browning Hi Power FG to the Test
First Use Experience
The initial range test involved several hundred rounds through my Browning Hi Power, primarily focusing on slow fire drills and rapid target acquisition exercises. I tested the Pachmayr Full Signature Grip Browning Hi Power FG at an outdoor range, subjecting it to typical range conditions including moderate humidity and temperatures in the mid-70s. This tested the grip in reasonably optimal conditions.
The difference in grip and control was immediately noticeable. The checkered rubber provided a secure hold, even with slightly sweaty hands, and the enhanced ergonomics made the pistol feel more natural and comfortable in my hand. Recoil felt more manageable, allowing for faster follow-up shots and improved accuracy.
The only initial minor issue was a slight stickiness when drawing from concealment, but this diminished after a few draws and re-holsters. Otherwise, the initial experience was overwhelmingly positive, confirming my expectations of improved handling and comfort.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use, the Pachmayr Full Signature Grip Browning Hi Power FG has proven to be a reliable and worthwhile upgrade. The durability has been impressive, with no signs of cracking, peeling, or significant wear and tear despite regular use.
Cleaning and maintenance are straightforward, requiring only a quick wipe-down with a damp cloth to remove dirt and grime. The rubber material resists absorbing oils and solvents, making it easy to keep the grips looking and feeling like new. Compared to the factory grips, which often felt slippery after extended use, the Pachmayr grips maintain their tackiness and provide a consistently secure hold.
The extended use has solidified my initial impressions. The Pachmayr grips not only enhance the aesthetics of the Browning Hi Power, but also contribute to a more confident and enjoyable shooting experience. They are a tangible improvement over the factory grips.
