The Pachmayr F325 Delux Field Pad Lg Black White Line Made a Bold First Impression
The Pachmayr F325 Delux Field Pad Lg Black White Line, from the renowned Pachmayr, promises to be a simple yet effective solution for mitigating felt recoil. At a price point of $25.49, it caters to shooters looking for an affordable way to enhance their shooting experience. This recoil pad, described as “Deluxe Field,” hints at a blend of comfort and functionality designed for practical field use.
As a seasoned outdoorsman, I’ve wrestled with bruising recoil for years, especially on long days chasing upland birds. I needed a recoil solution for my grandfather’s old 12-gauge shotgun that wouldn’t permanently alter its classic lines. I hoped this pad would tame the beast and allow me to enjoy a full day in the field without flinching.
Upon unboxing, the Pachmayr pad appeared well-made, featuring a clean black finish accented by a thin white line, adding a touch of classic style. The rubber felt dense yet pliable, suggesting decent recoil absorption. It weighed next to nothing, a definite plus for a field gun.
I considered a Limbsaver pad and a Kick-eez pad, both known for their superior recoil reduction. Ultimately, I chose the Pachmayr due to its lower profile and traditional aesthetic, hoping it would be a good balance of function and form. My initial reaction was cautiously optimistic.
Real-World Testing: Putting **Pachmayr F325 Delux Field Pad Lg Black White Line** to the Test
First Use Experience
I field-tested the Pachmayr F325 Delux Field Pad Lg Black White Line on my grandfather’s vintage 12-gauge during a pheasant hunt in South Dakota. The weather was crisp and dry, ideal for testing its performance without the interference of rain or mud. Installation required some trimming with a sharp utility knife, a fairly straightforward process.
The Pachmayr pad did noticeably reduce felt recoil, allowing me to shoulder the gun more comfortably and maintain my focus on the birds. However, even with the pad installed, the recoil was still significant. It definitely wasn’t magic, but it was an improvement.
Initial use revealed the importance of proper installation and fit. If not carefully trimmed and fitted, it could shift during shooting, leading to inconsistent shoulder placement. I also noticed that after a full day of shooting, my shoulder was still somewhat sore, but less so than without the pad.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of use across multiple hunting trips and range sessions, the Pachmayr F325 Delux Field Pad Lg Black White Line has proven to be a decent, but not exceptional, addition to my shotgun. The pad hasn’t shown any signs of cracking or tearing, indicating reasonable durability. It gets the job done for limited time.
Cleaning the pad is simple; a damp cloth wipes away dirt and grime easily. After extended use, the pad has compressed slightly, suggesting the rubber may lose some of its recoil-absorbing properties over time. It provides less protection as time goes on.
Compared to shooting without any recoil pad, the Pachmayr is a definite improvement. However, compared to higher-end recoil pads, like those from Limbsaver, it falls short in terms of overall recoil reduction. It performs adequately for its price point.
