Outers .22-.45 Caliber Universal Pistol Cleaning Kit Review

The Outers .22-.45 Caliber Universal Pistol Cleaning Kit Made a Bold First Impression

As someone with over a decade in the tactical and outdoor gear world, I’ve cleaned my fair share of firearms. When I first laid eyes on the Outers .22-.45 Caliber Universal Pistol Cleaning Kit, I was intrigued by its promise of universality at a budget-friendly price. The Outers brand, a long-standing name in firearm maintenance, often offers reliability without breaking the bank. I wanted to see if this kit lived up to that reputation.

My need was simple: a reliable, all-in-one cleaning solution for my diverse collection of pistols, ranging from .22 plinkers to .45 ACP workhorses. I was tired of cobbling together mismatched cleaning tools and storing them haphazardly. A convenient, organized kit was the answer.

Upon unboxing, the first thing I noticed was the reusable clamshell case. It’s basic, but functional, keeping everything neatly organized. The brass rods felt sturdy enough for the price, and the inclusion of cleaning solution (though small) was a welcome bonus.

I considered other kits from Hoppe’s and Real Avid, but the Outers kit stood out due to its compact size and lower price point. Others seemed to offer more specialized tools or larger quantities of cleaning solvents, but for a general, go-to kit, the Outers .22-.45 Caliber Universal Pistol Cleaning Kit seemed like the perfect balance. At $12.99, the barrier to entry was very low.

My initial impression was cautiously optimistic. It wasn’t flashy, but it seemed well-suited for the average shooter who needed a simple, reliable cleaning solution. I was eager to put it to the test and see if it could handle the grime and carbon buildup of regular use.

Real-World Testing: Putting Outers .22-.45 Caliber Universal Pistol Cleaning Kit to the Test

First Use Experience

I first tested the Outers .22-.45 Caliber Universal Pistol Cleaning Kit at my local shooting range after a long afternoon of target practice with my .45 ACP 1911. The pistol was filthy, as expected, and I was eager to see how the kit performed. The cleaning process was straightforward.

The brass rods connected easily, and the included brush effectively scrubbed away the carbon buildup. The cleaning solution helped loosen the stubborn grime.

I was initially concerned that the brass rods might scratch the bore, but they seemed soft enough to prevent any damage. There were no issues using the kit after shooting in sunny weather.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of using the Outers .22-.45 Caliber Universal Pistol Cleaning Kit on various pistols, I can confidently say it’s a reliable, albeit basic, cleaning solution. The brass rods are holding up well with no signs of bending or breakage.

The brushes show some wear, but are still functional after cleaning several pistols multiple times. I’ve noticed that the reusable clamshell case is starting to show signs of wear. It’s functional, but its durability is questionable.

Compared to my previous method of using individual cleaning tools, the Outers kit is significantly more convenient and organized. It doesn’t offer the same level of specialization as some higher-end kits, but for general cleaning purposes, it performs admirably.
