The Outdoor Connection Adjustable Black Padded Super Sling Made a Bold First Impression
As a seasoned outdoorsman and tactical gear specialist, I’ve slung countless rifles over my shoulder. My experience spans across rigorous hunting expeditions in the Rockies to tactical training exercises in demanding environments. I’ve always been on the lookout for a sling that blends comfort, durability, and practicality without breaking the bank. When I stumbled upon the Outdoor Connection Adjustable Black Padded Super Sling, its claims of superior comfort and control at an incredibly affordable price piqued my interest.
My old sling, a basic nylon strap, was digging into my shoulder during a recent elk hunt, making the long treks unbearable. This led me to actively seek out a padded sling that wouldn’t cause such discomfort. The Outdoor Connection Adjustable Black Padded Super Sling promised a solution with its “comfortable shape conforming shoulder pad,” designed to cushion the shoulder and reduce firearm bounce.
The sling arrived in simple, no-frills packaging. Upon unboxing, I immediately noticed the substantial padding on the shoulder strap. The material felt durable, though not exceptionally high-end, which was expected at the $15.99 price point. Compared to my old, unpadded sling and another similarly priced padded sling from a generic brand, the Outdoor Connection‘s padding was noticeably thicker and seemed more strategically shaped.
My initial impression was one of cautious optimism. The Outdoor Connection Adjustable Black Padded Super Sling looked promising. I was eager to see if it could live up to its claims of comfort and control in real-world conditions, especially after enduring the shoulder-numbing effects of my old sling.
Real-World Testing: Putting Outdoor Connection Adjustable Black Padded Super Sling to the Test
First Use Experience
My first test of the Outdoor Connection Adjustable Black Padded Super Sling was during a day-long varmint hunt on a sprawling ranch. I was primarily using my AR-15 platform rifle. This involved a considerable amount of walking across uneven terrain. The weather was dry and dusty, typical for a late summer afternoon in that region.
Initially, I was impressed by the sling’s comfort. The padded section significantly reduced the pressure on my shoulder compared to my old sling. Adjusting the sling’s length was simple and quick, allowing me to transition between carrying positions with ease. However, after a few hours of use, I noticed that the padding, while comfortable, retained some heat, leading to slight sweating under the strap.
Extended Use & Reliability
Over the past few months, I’ve used the Outdoor Connection Adjustable Black Padded Super Sling on several hunting trips, shooting range sessions, and even a weekend camping excursion. It has proven to be surprisingly durable for its price. There are no signs of significant wear and tear on the padding or the webbing.
Cleaning the sling is straightforward. A quick wipe with a damp cloth removes most dirt and grime. I did notice that the metal swivels developed a slight bit of surface rust after being exposed to a particularly damp morning, but this was easily addressed with a bit of oil. Compared to my previous experiences with more expensive slings, the Outdoor Connection Adjustable Black Padded Super Sling has held up admirably, providing comparable comfort and functionality at a fraction of the cost.
