First Impressions of Night Fision Optics Ready Stealth Heckler & Koch Night Sight Set
The Night Fision Optics Ready Stealth Heckler & Koch Night Sight Set promises enhanced visibility and co-witnessing capabilities for red dot users. As someone who’s tinkered with firearms for over a decade, constantly seeking that perfect balance between form and function, I was eager to see if these sights lived up to the hype. Night Fision claims to offer brighter tritium and a design tailored for optics-ready pistols, a combination that piqued my interest, especially given my growing preference for red dot setups on my handguns.
I was looking for a reliable set of back-up sights that wouldn’t clutter the optic window, while still being highly visible in low-light conditions. Many suppressor-height sights feel like overkill, obscuring too much of the target. My hope was that the “Optics Ready Stealth” design would offer a cleaner sight picture without sacrificing functionality.
Unboxing the Night Fision sights, my first impression was positive. The sights felt solid and well-made, with a clean black nitride finish. The tritium vials glowed noticeably even in dim light, giving me confidence in their low-light performance. Compared to standard height sights, they were taller, but not excessively so, striking what seemed to be a good balance.
I’ve previously used Trijicon HD sights and Ameriglo GL-429s on other pistols. I chose the Night Fision Optics Ready Stealth Heckler & Koch Night Sight Set because of their specific design for optics-ready handguns and the promise of enhanced tritium brightness. The Trijicons, while excellent, felt bulky, and the Ameriglos didn’t offer quite the same level of low-light visibility.
I was cautiously optimistic. The build quality seemed excellent, and the design appeared well-thought-out. My main concern was whether the co-witness height would truly be a comfortable lower 1/3 without being too distracting. Time at the range would tell.
Real-World Testing: Putting Night Fision Optics Ready Stealth Heckler & Koch Night Sight Set to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the Night Fision Optics Ready Stealth Heckler & Koch Night Sight Set at my local outdoor range on a sunny afternoon, followed by an evening session in their indoor range. The sunny day allowed me to assess the daylight visibility of the fluorescent rings, while the indoor range tested their tritium brightness in near-total darkness. I installed the sights on my H&K VP9, which is equipped with a Holosun 507C red dot sight.
The sights were easily visible in daylight, the high-visibility ring around the front sight drawing my eye quickly. Transitioning to the indoor range, the tritium glow was potent and provided a clear aiming point. In both environments, aligning the sights for co-witnessing with the red dot was intuitive, requiring minimal adjustment. One unexpected surprise was how quickly I adjusted to this sight picture.
The only issue I encountered initially was getting used to the slightly taller front sight during draw stroke. After a few reps, however, it became second nature.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Night Fision Optics Ready Stealth Heckler & Koch Night Sight Set has held up remarkably well. I’ve put several hundred rounds downrange with these sights installed. The finish shows no signs of wear, and the tritium vials remain consistently bright.
I’ve subjected the sights to varying conditions, including a rainy range day and a particularly dusty training session. The black nitride coating has proven its worth, resisting rust and scratches. Cleaning has been simple, requiring only a quick wipe-down with a silicone cloth. I have even carried the handgun during hunting trips and the sights have been incredibly durable.
These sights have exceeded my initial expectations. The lower 1/3 co-witness is perfect, and the enhanced visibility is a significant improvement over my previous night sights. The Night Fision Optics Ready Stealth Heckler & Koch Night Sight Set is a worthwhile upgrade.
