First Impressions of Nextorch V14 Modular Radio Pouch
The Nextorch V14 Modular Radio Pouch promises a blend of durability and practicality for securely carrying your communication device. Nextorch is a known brand, but in the tactical gear world, reputation is earned in the field, not just on paper. I was intrigued by the pouch’s compact size and its promise of modularity, something crucial for adapting to different loadouts.
For years, I’ve relied on various radio pouches, from the cheap nylon ones that disintegrate after a few hikes to the overly bulky MOLLE systems that add unnecessary weight. My biggest problem was finding a pouch that was both secure and easily accessible while maintaining a low profile on my gear. The Nextorch V14 Modular Radio Pouch appeared to potentially solve this.
Upon unboxing, the Nextorch V14 Modular Radio Pouch felt solid. The nylon construction seemed robust, though I’d need to put it through its paces to truly judge its resilience. It’s lightweight, which is always a plus, and the stitching appeared clean and reinforced.
Compared to a Condor radio pouch I’ve used (which fell apart quickly) and a 5.11 Tactical pouch (a bit too bulky for my liking), the Nextorch V14 Modular Radio Pouch seemed like a potential sweet spot. I wanted something streamlined, durable, and readily adaptable to different vests and belts, and my initial excitement was cautiously optimistic. I hoped it could live up to Nextorch’s reputation.
Real-World Testing: Putting Nextorch V14 Modular Radio Pouch to the Test
First Use Experience
My first outing with the Nextorch V14 Modular Radio Pouch was at a local shooting range. I attached it to my plate carrier and used it to hold my Baofeng UV-5R, a common radio among shooting enthusiasts. The pouch felt secure during movement drills, and I could easily access the radio when needed.
The range environment exposed the pouch to some dust and dirt. It held up well, and the radio remained protected. The ease of drawing and stowing the radio was a pleasant surprise; I didn’t have to fumble or look down, which is critical in a dynamic situation.
There weren’t any immediate issues, but I did notice that the retention strap could be a little tricky to manipulate with gloves on. However, this wasn’t a major concern.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of use, including a weekend-long camping trip and numerous range sessions, the Nextorch V14 Modular Radio Pouch has proven to be surprisingly durable. There are no visible signs of wear and tear. The stitching remains intact, and the nylon still looks new.
Cleaning is easy; a quick wipe down with a damp cloth removes any dirt or grime. Compared to my older pouches, which started fraying and fading after similar use, the Nextorch seems built to last. It outperformed my expectations.
