Let’s Dive into NexTool Monster Mouth Multi-tool w/Carabiner
The NexTool Monster Mouth Multi-tool w/Carabiner is a quirky and affordable keychain companion designed for everyday carry. Manufactured by NexTool, this stainless steel gadget packs a screwdriver, bottle opener, and wrench cutouts into a fun, tiki-inspired design. I was intrigued by its unique aesthetic and the promise of having essential tools readily available.
For years, I’ve carried a bulky multi-tool on my belt, but it’s overkill for simple tasks like opening a bottle or tightening a loose screw. I needed something smaller, lighter, and less intimidating for casual use. I was hoping this would be the perfect solution.
Upon unboxing, the first thing that struck me was its size and shape; it’s definitely a conversation starter. The stainless steel feels solid and well-made, though the finish shows fingerprints easily. I am impressed by the overall build quality for a sub-$10 tool.
I considered the Gerber Shard and the Leatherman Micra, both popular keychain multi-tools. However, the NexTool stood out due to its unique design and the inclusion of wrench cutouts, which the others lacked. It offered a different appeal.
Initially, I was excited by the novelty of the design and the potential for it to be a handy little gadget. I was a bit skeptical about how comfortable it would be to use the tools given its size and shape, but overall, I was optimistic. The carabiner clip was a major plus for easy attachment.
Real-World Testing: Putting NexTool Monster Mouth Multi-tool w/Carabiner to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the NexTool Monster Mouth Multi-tool w/Carabiner during a weekend camping trip. I used the bottle opener to crack open a cold beverage after setting up camp, and the screwdriver to tighten a loose screw on my camp stove. The wrench cutouts also proved useful for adjusting a stubborn valve.
While camping, the conditions were dry and dusty, but the NexTool performed admirably. Even with a bit of grime on it, the tools remained functional. It was easy to use and did not require any getting used to.
The only minor issue I encountered was the difficulty of using the screwdriver on smaller screws. The shape of the tool made it a bit awkward to get a good grip and apply enough torque. But overall, it was a positive first experience.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of carrying the NexTool Monster Mouth Multi-tool w/Carabiner on my keychain, it has held up surprisingly well. There are some minor scratches on the surface from daily wear and tear, but the tool remains structurally sound. The stainless steel has resisted rust.
The finish is showing some wear after rubbing against other keys and items in my pocket, which is expected. Cleaning is simple; a quick wipe with a damp cloth is all it takes. It seems durable for its price.
Compared to some of the cheaper keychain tools I’ve used in the past, the NexTool definitely outperforms them in terms of durability and functionality. It feels more substantial and the tools are actually usable. The carabiner is still holding strong, and the tool itself is showing only minor wear.
