Let’s Dive into NcSTAR Tactical Stocking W/Handle
The NcSTAR Tactical Stocking W/Handle isn’t your grandma’s knitted Christmas decoration. Manufactured by NcSTAR, this stocking combines holiday cheer with tactical functionality, offering MOLLE webbing, D-rings, and a front pocket for a unique and practical gift. I initially scoffed at the idea, but the sheer novelty and potential for a fun gag gift piqued my interest.
I’ve always struggled to find the perfect stocking stuffer for my gear-obsessed buddies. Traditional candies and trinkets feel impersonal and often end up forgotten. The NcSTAR Tactical Stocking promised a playful way to acknowledge their passion while still participating in holiday traditions.
Upon unboxing (or, more accurately, unwrapping the plastic it came in), my first impression was that it was surprisingly well-constructed for its price. The material felt reasonably durable, and the stitching seemed solid enough to withstand some abuse. It’s definitely not a high-end tactical bag, but it’s also only $8.64.
Compared to a standard Christmas stocking or even a novelty stocking with a cartoon character, the NcSTAR Tactical Stocking stands out with its utilitarian design. There are other “tactical” stockings on the market, some with higher-quality materials or more elaborate designs, but they come at a significantly higher cost. I chose this one because it struck a balance between functionality, affordability, and pure ridiculousness.
My initial reaction was amusement mixed with a grudging respect for its audacity. It’s the kind of item that makes you chuckle and think, “Well, someone actually made this!” It was better than I expected, and I was genuinely excited to fill it with equally ridiculous, tactically-themed stocking stuffers.
Real-World Testing: Putting NcSTAR Tactical Stocking W/Handle to the Test
First Use Experience
My first “test” involved hanging it by the chimney with care (or, more accurately, on a sturdy coat hook in my garage). It survived being filled with various tactical-themed gag gifts – a multi-tool, a tiny flashlight, some paracord, and a few energy bars. The plastic clip held surprisingly well, even with the added weight.
I even subjected it to a simulated “grab-and-go” scenario, imagining a scenario where I needed to quickly evacuate with my holiday cheer. While hardly a rigorous field test, the carry handle proved functional for short distances. I wouldn’t recommend using it as a primary bug-out bag, but it adds a fun element of portability.
The primary issue I noticed after the first “use” was the limitations of the pocket size. Some items were too bulky to fit comfortably, requiring some creative packing.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of hanging (and occasional re-packing), the NcSTAR Tactical Stocking W/Handle has held up remarkably well. There’s no noticeable wear and tear on the stitching or the MOLLE webbing. The plastic clips still function as intended, although I wouldn’t trust them with excessively heavy loads.
Cleaning is a breeze – a quick wipe down with a damp cloth is usually sufficient. It’s not something that requires any special maintenance.
Compared to my expectations, the NcSTAR Tactical Stocking has actually outperformed. I initially anticipated it being a flimsy novelty item that would fall apart within days. Instead, it’s proven to be surprisingly durable and functional (within reasonable limits, of course).
Breaking Down the Features of NcSTAR Tactical Stocking W/Handle
Specifications
The NcSTAR Tactical Stocking W/Handle measures approximately 15 inches in height and 10.5 inches in width, with a leg width of 6.5 inches. This size offers ample space for stuffing with holiday goodies, tactical gadgets, or a combination of both.
It weighs in at a mere 6.6 ounces, making it lightweight and easy to handle, even when fully loaded. The lightweight construction doesn’t compromise its structural integrity, considering its intended purpose.
The stocking features a side zipper for the main compartment, providing easy access to the contents. This is much more convenient than traditional stockings where you have to blindly reach in from the top.
It includes a 3.5in x 2in loop fastener patch for attaching hook and loop name tapes or morale patches. This allows for personalization and adds to the tactical aesthetic.
Three rows of MOLLE webbing are strategically placed for attaching other MOLLE-compatible gear. This is a standout feature that allows for modularity and customization, transforming the stocking into a mini tactical organizer.
A 3in x 3.5in front-mounted pocket with bungee shock cord closure offers additional storage space for smaller items. This pocket is perfect for keeping easily accessible items like flashlights or small tools.
Two PAL straps with metal thumb snaps on the back allow you to connect the stocking to your MOLLE-compatible gear. This feature is useful for integrating the stocking into a larger tactical setup or attaching it to a backpack.
Two quick-connect buckles on the toe section add to the overall tactical look. These buckles are primarily aesthetic but contribute to the stocking’s unique design.
A top-mounted plastic carry handle provides a convenient way to carry the stocking. This handle makes it easy to transport the stocking, especially when it’s filled with heavy items.
Two plastic D-rings on the left side offer additional attachment points for carabiners or other accessories. The D-rings add versatility to the stocking’s functionality.
Performance & Functionality
The NcSTAR Tactical Stocking W/Handle performs admirably as a novelty item and a functional organizer. It effectively holds a variety of items, from traditional stocking stuffers to small tactical gadgets. Its functionality isn’t on par with a dedicated tactical bag, but it serves its intended purpose well.
Its strength lies in its novelty and the ability to add a tactical twist to holiday gifting. A weakness is its limited storage capacity compared to larger bags or organizers.
It meets expectations as a fun and unique stocking, but exceeds them in its surprisingly durable construction.
Design & Ergonomics
The NcSTAR Tactical Stocking is designed with a utilitarian aesthetic, prioritizing functionality over traditional holiday decorations. The build quality is decent for its price point, with reasonably durable materials and stitching. The weight is negligible, even when fully loaded.
