The NcStar CPDX2971T VISM Double Pistol Range Bag with Mag Pouches, Loop Fasteners, Zippers, Padding & Tan Finish Made a Bold First Impression
As a seasoned outdoor and tactical gear specialist, I’ve seen my fair share of range bags, from high-end, meticulously crafted models to bare-bones budget options. My initial reaction upon laying eyes on the NcStar CPDX2971T VISM Double Pistol Range Bag with Mag Pouches, Loop Fasteners, Zippers, Padding & Tan Finish was a blend of intrigue and skepticism, mainly due to its incredibly accessible price point. Could a bag priced this affordably genuinely hold up to the rigors of regular range use?
My search for a secondary range bag began when I found my primary, a significantly more expensive model, constantly overloaded. I needed something smaller, more compartmentalized for quick trips to the indoor range, specifically designed to hold two pistols and ample magazines. The NcStar bag promised just that, and at $19.99, the risk felt minimal.
Unboxing the NcStar bag was surprisingly pleasant. The tan finish, while not exactly high-fashion, was clean and practical. The material felt reasonably sturdy to the touch, certainly exceeding my expectations given the cost. The stitching appeared consistent, and the zippers, while not top-of-the-line, moved smoothly. I compared it to my older, single-pistol bag from Blackhawk, and a smaller ammo bag from 5.11 Tactical. The NcStar held more and seemed better organized than the other two for pistol and magazine carry.
My first impression was definitely positive, albeit with a healthy dose of cautious optimism. It certainly looked like a good value. I was excited to see how it would actually perform under real-world conditions, ready to challenge my preconceptions about budget-friendly gear.
Real-World Testing: Putting NcStar CPDX2971T VISM Double Pistol Range Bag with Mag Pouches, Loop Fasteners, Zippers, Padding & Tan Finish to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing ground for the NcStar CPDX2971T VISM Double Pistol Range Bag with Mag Pouches, Loop Fasteners, Zippers, Padding & Tan Finish was my local indoor shooting range. I packed it with two full-sized 9mm pistols, a Glock 17 and a Sig Sauer P320, along with six double-stack magazines for each. The bag handled the weight surprisingly well, and the pistol compartments, secured with the hook & loop straps, kept everything snug and prevented any unwanted shifting during transport.
The NcStar bag was used in a temperature-controlled environment, so the effects of extreme weather were not tested in the first run. The bag was quite easy to use and required no learning curve. I did discover one thing though. The hook and loop straps holding the pistols can snag on the grip texture, so care must be used when loading and unloading to prevent damage.
Extended Use & Reliability
After three months of regular use, the NcStar bag has proven to be surprisingly durable. There are no signs of tearing or seam separation. The zippers are still functioning smoothly, though they do feel like the weakest point of the design. A little zipper lubricant fixed the problem immediately.
The tan material cleans easily with a damp cloth, resisting most stains. The padding has retained its shape and continues to provide adequate protection for the pistols. It outperforms my expectations for a budget range bag.
