The MTM Red Gun Vise Made a Bold First Impression
For years, I’ve wrestled with jury-rigged cleaning setups: towels precariously balanced on workbenches, rifles teetering between buckets, and a constant fear of scratching a prized firearm. Then I discovered the MTM Red Gun Vise, a name that promised stability and order amidst the chaos of gun maintenance. I was intrigued by the promise of a secure, non-marring hold, combined with organized storage.
My main motivation was to streamline the cleaning process. I was tired of constantly searching for misplaced brushes, solvents, and patches scattered across my workspace. The MTM Red Gun Vise seemed like a solution to finally bring some order to my gun cleaning routine.
The MTM Red Gun Vise arrives as a lightweight but surprisingly sturdy unit, molded from vibrant red polypropylene. The plastic construction gave me pause initially, expecting something more robust. However, its cleverly designed compartments and single adjustment clamp-down inspired confidence right away.
Compared to basic cradles or improvised rests, the MTM Red Gun Vise offered a clear advantage in terms of stability and integrated storage. I had considered more expensive metal vises, but the MTM struck a good balance between functionality and affordability, so I gave it a try. It was an immediate upgrade in organization and ease of use.
My first impression was cautiously optimistic. The MTM Red Gun Vise didn’t feel like a premium, heavy-duty product, but the smart design and clever features sparked my curiosity. I was excited to see if it could truly simplify my gun cleaning and maintenance process.
Real-World Testing: Putting MTM Red Gun Vise to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the MTM Red Gun Vise in my garage workshop. The conditions were typical: a bit dusty and somewhat cramped. I used it for cleaning my AR-15 after a day at the range.
The vise held the rifle securely, even when applying moderate pressure while scrubbing the bore. The non-marring hold lived up to its promise, leaving no scratches on my rifle’s finish.
It took only a few minutes to figure out the single adjustment clamp down. There were no instructions needed. I did notice I had to be careful about how tightly I clamped, as the plastic did flex a bit.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the MTM Red Gun Vise has proven to be a valuable addition to my cleaning setup. It has held up well, with no cracks or significant wear despite being made of plastic.
The plastic has held up well and cleans easily. I did notice some discoloration from harsh solvents, but nothing that affects its function. I simply wipe it down after each use to prevent any buildup.
This MTM Red Gun Vise has been more convenient and organized than my previous method. It has been easier to maintain my firearms over time. I still long for a heavier duty vise with more weight, but this vise is a great value for the price.

The vise includes fourteen separate compartments for storing cleaning supplies, as well as eleven screwdriver bit holders. Two cleaning rods can be stored in designated slots. The entire unit is constructed from rugged, chemical and solvent resistant polypropylene plastic.
These specifications translate to a convenient and organized cleaning experience. The storage compartments keep all necessary supplies within reach, while the non-marring forks protect the firearm from scratches. Performance & Functionality
The MTM Red Gun Vise performs its primary function of holding firearms securely for cleaning and maintenance effectively. The single adjustment clamp down is quick and easy to use. This securely holds the firearm in place while you work.
The vise is stable enough for most cleaning tasks, but the lighter weight can be a drawback when dealing with heavier rifles or applying significant force. The plastic construction also means it is not suitable for heavy gunsmithing or repairs.
The MTM Red Gun Vise meets my expectations for a basic cleaning vise, but it doesn’t exceed them. A little more weight and more robust construction would be welcome additions.
Design & Ergonomics
The MTM Red Gun Vise features a simple, functional design. The red polypropylene plastic is durable and easy to clean. The various compartments are logically arranged and provide ample storage for cleaning supplies.
The vise is relatively lightweight, making it easy to move around. However, the light weight can also make it less stable when working with heavier firearms. There’s no learning curve to the product.
Durability & Maintenance
The MTM Red Gun Vise is constructed from rugged polypropylene plastic that is resistant to chemicals and solvents. This ensures that it can withstand repeated use with harsh cleaning products.
Maintenance is simple: just wipe down the vise with a damp cloth after each use. The plastic is easy to clean, and the compartments help keep everything organized. The vise is not designed to be repaired, but the durable construction should provide years of use under normal conditions.
