First Impressions of MAK Optics Makstorm 4x30i HD Prismatic Sight
The MAK Optics Makstorm 4x30i HD Prismatic Sight isn’t just another optic; it’s a statement. Manufactured by MAK Optics, renowned for their German precision and commitment to quality, this sight promises to deliver exceptional performance on MSR/AR platforms. Its fixed 4x magnification, coupled with what MAK Optics claims is an industry-leading 88% daylight transmission, immediately grabbed my attention.
I’ve always been a fan of prism sights for their clarity and etched reticles, which function even without battery power. My aging eyes needed an optic that could provide a clear, crisp image at moderate ranges, and the Makstorm seemed like a perfect solution. I was also looking for something more robust and reliable than my existing red dot, something that could withstand the rigors of tactical training and the occasional bump in the field.
The Makstorm arrived meticulously packaged in a rugged polymer case, a testament to MAK Optics’ attention to detail. Lifting it out, I was immediately struck by its solid, robust feel, hinting at the 7075 T6 Aluminium construction. It felt like a significant upgrade from my Sig Sauer Bravo4, which, while decent, lacked the same feeling of indestructible quality. The Burris AR-4X offered similar magnification, but the Makstorm seemed to boast superior glass clarity right out of the box.
My first impression was one of excited anticipation. This sight screamed quality and purpose-built design. If it performs as well as it looks, the MAK Optics Makstorm 4x30i HD Prismatic Sight could be a game-changer for my shooting experience.

I first tested the MAK Optics Makstorm 4x30i HD Prismatic Sight at my local shooting range, engaging targets from 50 to 200 yards. The weather was overcast, but the HD optical system delivered exceptional clarity and brightness, even in suboptimal lighting conditions. The reticle was crisp and easy to acquire, making target acquisition quick and intuitive.
The sight was remarkably easy to zero, requiring only a few adjustments to achieve consistent center-mass hits. I appreciated the tactile and audible clicks of the MOA adjustments. I also tested the Makstorm in a light rain shower, and the abrasion-resistant coatings on the lenses ensured a clear sight picture without any noticeable distortion.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use, the MAK Optics Makstorm 4x30i HD Prismatic Sight has proven to be exceptionally durable and reliable. I’ve used it in various conditions, from hot, dusty days at the range to cold, damp mornings during hunting season. The 7075 T6 Aluminium housing has held up flawlessly, showing no signs of wear or damage despite being subjected to bumps and scrapes.
Maintenance is simple; a quick wipe with a lens cloth keeps the glass clean and clear. The Makstorm consistently outperforms my expectations, delivering a clear, reliable sight picture in any situation. I’m confident that this optic will last for many years to come, easily surpassing the performance and longevity of previous sights I’ve owned.
