Magpul Hunter 700 Stock Fixed w/Aluminum Bedding & Adj Comb OD Green Synthetic for Remington 700 LA Review

The Magpul Hunter 700 Stock Fixed w/Aluminum Bedding & Adj Comb OD Green Synthetic for Remington 700 LA Made a Bold First Impression

The Magpul Hunter 700 Stock Fixed w/Aluminum Bedding & Adj Comb OD Green Synthetic for Remington 700 LA promises a cost-effective and ergonomic upgrade for Remington 700 long action rifles. It boasts adjustable length of pull and comb height, along with M-LOK compatibility, all in a drop-in package. I’d been looking to modernize my aging Remington 700 ADL in .30-06, and the promise of improved ergonomics and adjustability drew me in.

For years, my hunting rifle wore its original, rather basic synthetic stock. While functional, it lacked adjustability and felt somewhat cheap. I considered other chassis systems, but their price tags were daunting. The Magpul offering seemed to strike a balance between affordability and performance. My primary goal was to enhance the rifle’s fit and recoil management for more comfortable and accurate shooting during deer season. Upon unboxing, the OD Green color looked great. The stock felt robust, the reinforced polymer felt more solid than the factory stock, and the aluminum bedding block gave a sense of quality. The initial impression was very positive: this wasn’t just a cosmetic upgrade, it felt like a substantial improvement.

Compared to the Bell and Carlson Medalist or a full-blown chassis system from MDT, the Magpul stock offers a more streamlined approach. I favored it for its balance between features, weight, and cost, avoiding the bulk and expense of a chassis while still providing key upgrades. Many premium chassis systems are overkill for my hunting needs. I was immediately excited to install it and get to the range.

Real-World Testing: Putting Magpul Hunter 700 Stock Fixed w/Aluminum Bedding & Adj Comb OD Green Synthetic for Remington 700 LA to the Test

First Use Experience

My first outing with the Magpul Hunter 700 Stock Fixed w/Aluminum Bedding & Adj Comb OD Green Synthetic for Remington 700 LA was at my local range, primarily to re-zero the rifle after the stock swap. The weather was mild and sunny, perfect for sighting in. Installation proved to be genuinely drop-in; within minutes, the barreled action was secured. Adjusting the length of pull and comb height to fit my frame was intuitive and quick.

The immediate improvement was noticeable: the rifle felt more stable and comfortable in my hands. Recoil felt slightly reduced, likely due to the enhanced ergonomics and solid bedding. I put about 60 rounds downrange. After the session I discovered one slight negative issue: cleaning the rifle would take slightly longer, due to the new shape of the chassis.

Extended Use & Reliability

Over the following months, the Magpul stock has seen action on several deer hunts and numerous range sessions. It has performed flawlessly, enduring rain, mud, and temperatures ranging from below freezing to moderately warm. There are no signs of significant wear and tear. The OD Green finish remains unblemished, and the stock feels as solid as day one.

Cleaning is straightforward. A simple wipe-down with a damp cloth removes most dirt and debris. I occasionally use a brush to clean around the bedding block. It has definitely outperformed my original factory stock in terms of comfort, adjustability, and recoil management. Shooting tighter groups and feeling less fatigued after a day at the range are proof of its effectiveness. The improved ergonomics have also made the rifle feel more natural to shoulder and handle in hunting scenarios.
