Magpul DAKA Double Pistol Case FDE Review

First Thoughts on the Magpul DAKA Double Pistol Case FDE

The Magpul DAKA Double Pistol Case FDE enters a crowded market of pistol storage solutions, promising durability and discreet transport. Magpul is a name synonymous with quality in the firearms accessory world, so my expectations were high. It aims to securely carry two pistols and their magazines, a need that many firearms enthusiasts, myself included, frequently encounter.

My old range bag was a disorganized mess, lacking dedicated pistol compartments. This resulted in scuffed finishes and a general lack of peace of mind during transport. I was specifically seeking a case offering both robust protection and efficient organization.

Upon unboxing, the Magpul DAKA Double Pistol Case FDE felt solid and well-constructed. The semi-rigid DAKA material felt both durable and slightly flexible, unlike some hard cases that can be cumbersome. The Flat Dark Earth (FDE) color provides a low-profile aesthetic, desirable for discreet carry.

Compared to my existing soft-sided range bag and a rigid plastic case I occasionally use, the Magpul DAKA Double Pistol Case FDE strikes a balance. It offers better protection than the soft bag and superior portability compared to the bulky plastic case. I chose this product because of Magpul’s reputation for quality and the case’s promise of a water-resistant, organized solution.

My first impression was positive. The Magpul DAKA Double Pistol Case FDE appeared to be a well-thought-out solution for securely transporting multiple handguns, and I was excited to put it through its paces.

Real-World Testing: Putting Magpul DAKA Double Pistol Case FDE to the Test

First Use Experience

My initial test of the Magpul DAKA Double Pistol Case FDE occurred during a trip to my local outdoor shooting range. I transported two full-size pistols, along with several magazines and some small tools. The case handled the load with ease and remained balanced during carry.

It rained intermittently throughout the day, providing an impromptu test of the case’s water resistance. While not fully submersible, the YKK® AquaGuard® zipper kept the contents dry during light showers. The case proved easy to use, with the pistol sleeves and magazine retention bands securely holding everything in place.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of regular use, the Magpul DAKA Double Pistol Case FDE has held up remarkably well. There are no signs of significant wear and tear. The DAKA material continues to resist scuffs and abrasions.

Maintenance has been minimal. Wiping down the exterior with a damp cloth is usually sufficient to remove dirt and grime. Compared to my previous experiences with less robust cases, the Magpul DAKA Double Pistol Case FDE has significantly outperformed them in terms of durability and organization.
