The MACH Speed Spool SLP Low Profile Baitcast Reel promises a blend of compact design and high performance, a combination I’m always seeking in my fishing gear. As a seasoned angler with over a decade of experience, I’ve seen countless reels come and go, each claiming to be the next big thing. But the MACH I SLP, built on Lew’s Super Low Profile platform, intrigued me with its promise of palming comfort without sacrificing power. Its dual cast control system and CNC brass gears suggest a precision instrument, something that could truly elevate my fishing game.
For years, I’ve struggled to find a baitcaster that truly felt like an extension of my hand, a reel that allowed me to make pinpoint casts without fatigue. The promise of the MACH Speed Spool SLP Low Profile Baitcast Reel being compact and easily palmable was the biggest draw for me.
Unboxing the reel, I was immediately struck by its sleek design. It felt solid in my hand, the low-profile design conforming nicely to my palm. The finish was smooth and the overall construction felt robust. Compared to my older Shimano Curado and Abu Garcia Revo SX, the MACH Speed Spool SLP Low Profile Baitcast Reel felt noticeably smaller and lighter, yet equally sturdy. Real-World Testing: Putting MACH Speed Spool SLP Low Profile Baitcast Reel to the Test
First Use Experience
I took the MACH Speed Spool SLP Low Profile Baitcast Reel to my local lake, known for its challenging bass fishing. The weather was typical for early spring, with a slight breeze and occasional light rain. I paired it with a 7′ medium-heavy rod and spooled it with 12lb fluorocarbon line.
The first few casts were impressive. The MSB Multi-Setting Brake system took a bit of fine-tuning, but once dialed in, it allowed for surprisingly long and accurate casts even in the wind. There were zero backlashes, which is always a good sign with a new baitcaster.
The reel felt incredibly comfortable to use. Its low profile allowed me to palm it securely, reducing fatigue during a long day of fishing. After a couple of hours of use, I landed three decent-sized bass. I experienced no issues and was impressed with its smooth retrieval.

After several weeks of consistent use, the MACH Speed Spool SLP Low Profile Baitcast Reel continues to impress. I’ve used it in various conditions, from sunny days to windy afternoons, and it has performed flawlessly. The finish still looks new with only minor scratches.
The reel feels as smooth as it did on day one. I make sure to clean and lubricate it after each use, which is a simple process. Compared to my older reels, the MACH Speed Spool SLP Low Profile Baitcast Reel requires less maintenance and seems more resistant to wear and tear.
