Let’s Talk About Lippert FOS07TAED 742908 Digital Wireless Obs.7″Camera
As an outdoor and tactical gear specialist with over a decade under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of gadgets promising to enhance the RV experience. But the Lippert FOS07TAED 742908 Digital Wireless Obs.7″Camera piqued my interest for its potential to alleviate the inherent stress of maneuvering a large vehicle, especially in tight spaces. Lippert, a well-known name in the RV component industry, claims this system offers a simple, cost-effective solution for enhanced visibility.
My interest stemmed from a near-miss incident while backing my travel trailer into a particularly crowded campsite last summer. I needed a reliable, easy-to-install system that wouldn’t break the bank, but would offer a clear, real-time view behind my rig. Unboxing the Lippert FOS07TAED 742908 Digital Wireless Obs.7″Camera, I was immediately struck by the monitor’s size; the 7-inch display felt substantial and easy to view. The camera itself appeared rugged, hinting at decent weather resistance.
Compared to other wireless backup camera systems I’d considered – namely the Furrion Vision S and the Haloview MC7108 – the Lippert system seemed to offer a balance between features and price. The Furrion boasted more advanced features like obstacle detection, but carried a significantly higher price tag. The Haloview, while similarly priced, had mixed reviews regarding signal strength. My initial impression was cautiously optimistic; excited about the potential convenience, but wary of wireless connectivity issues.
Real-World Testing: Putting Lippert FOS07TAED 742908 Digital Wireless Obs.7″Camera to the Test
First Use Experience
I installed the Lippert FOS07TAED 742908 Digital Wireless Obs.7″Camera on my 30-foot travel trailer before a weekend camping trip to Big Bear Lake, CA. The installation process, true to Lippert’s claim, was indeed quick and simple; the wireless nature eliminated the hassle of running cables through the RV. The first test was in my driveway, backing up to hook up to the tow vehicle.
Performance in broad daylight was excellent; the image was crisp and clear, easily allowing me to see obstacles and guide the trailer. As the sun began to set, the camera automatically adjusted, providing surprisingly good visibility even in low-light conditions. I did not get to test the camera under extremely wet or dusty conditions on the first test. The system was intuitive to use, requiring minimal setup out of the box.
One initial surprise was the strength of the wireless signal; even with the trailer’s length, the connection remained stable and clear.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months and multiple camping trips spanning diverse environments – from the sunny deserts of Arizona to the rainy forests of Oregon – the Lippert FOS07TAED 742908 Digital Wireless Obs.7″Camera has proven to be a valuable addition to my RV setup. It has held up well in the tough outdoors. The camera housing shows no signs of cracking or water intrusion, and the monitor continues to function flawlessly.
Regular cleaning with a soft cloth is all it takes to keep the camera lens clear and the monitor dust-free. Compared to my previous reliance on mirrors and spotters, the Lippert system offers a significantly improved level of confidence and safety when maneuvering my RV. It outperforms my expectations given the relatively simple design and wireless nature.
