Let’s Dive into Leupold Ruger American RVR Dual Dovetail Mounting System
The Leupold Ruger American RVR Dual Dovetail Mounting System is a scope mounting solution designed specifically for the Ruger American Rifle. Crafted by Leupold, a name synonymous with quality optics and mounting solutions, this system promises a reliable and low-profile platform for attaching your favorite scope. With its dual dovetail design, it aims to provide a rock-solid connection, essential for maintaining zero and achieving consistent accuracy.
I was looking for a scope mounting solution that was both robust and low-profile. I needed something that wouldn’t add unnecessary bulk to my Ruger American, while still ensuring a secure and repeatable zero. The promise of a Leupold product specifically designed for my rifle model piqued my interest immediately.
Upon unboxing, the first thing I noticed was the clean, matte black finish and the solid feel of the carbon steel. The pieces felt substantial in my hand, instilling confidence in their ability to withstand recoil. The simplicity of the design was also appealing, suggesting an easy installation process.
Compared to a Picatinny rail system, the Leupold Ruger American RVR Dual Dovetail Mounting System offers a cleaner, more streamlined look. Compared to other dovetail mounts, the Leupold system promised a more secure and repeatable zero. I chose this over other options because of Leupold‘s reputation for quality and precision.
My first impression was one of cautious optimism. I was excited by the potential for a secure and low-profile mounting solution. I was also aware that even the best-designed system can fall short if not properly installed or if it suffers from poor manufacturing tolerances.
Real-World Testing: Putting Leupold Ruger American RVR Dual Dovetail Mounting System to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the Leupold Ruger American RVR Dual Dovetail Mounting System at my local shooting range on a clear, sunny day. I wanted to gauge its ability to hold zero after repeated firing.
The system performed well in these conditions. It was easy to align the scope during installation, and the dovetail design seemed to provide a secure lock. There were no noticeable shifts in zero during the initial shooting session.
The mounting system was straightforward to use. The instructions were clear, and the installation process was relatively simple, requiring only basic tools. I did need to watch a few online videos to fully grasp the rotary dovetail ring attachment process, though.
After the first range session, there were no immediate issues. I was initially impressed with the solid feel and the consistent performance. However, the real test would be how it holds up over time and in more challenging conditions.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of use, including multiple range trips and a weekend hunting trip in varying weather conditions, the Leupold Ruger American RVR Dual Dovetail Mounting System has held up remarkably well. The zero has remained consistent, even after being subjected to moderate recoil and temperature fluctuations.
There are minimal signs of wear and tear. The matte black finish has proven to be quite durable, showing no significant scratches or blemishes, even after being exposed to brush and branches during my hunting trip.
Maintenance is simple. A quick wipe down with a clean cloth after each use is all that’s needed to keep the system in good working order. I also occasionally check the screws to ensure they remain properly tightened.
Compared to my previous experience with a cheaper, universal mounting system, the Leupold Ruger American RVR Dual Dovetail Mounting System is a clear winner. It provides a much more stable and reliable platform for my scope, resulting in improved accuracy and confidence in the field.
