The Leupold 171203 DeltaPoint Pro Base For S&W M&P Core Dovetail Style Black Matte Made a Bold First Impression
Red dot sights have revolutionized pistol shooting, offering faster target acquisition and improved accuracy. The ability to quickly mount a Leupold DeltaPoint Pro to my Smith & Wesson M&P CORE pistol has always been appealing. This is why the Leupold 171203 DeltaPoint Pro Base For S&W M&P Core Dovetail Style Black Matte immediately caught my attention, promising a seamless and secure mounting solution.
I’ve been running iron sights on my M&P CORE for years. While proficient with them, the speed and precision of a red dot were undeniable advantages I wanted to explore for both competition and tactical scenarios. I needed a reliable base that wouldn’t compromise the pistol’s balance or aesthetics.
The base arrived in Leupold’s standard, no-frills packaging. The first thing I noticed was its solid feel; the black matte steel exuded quality. Holding it, I appreciated the clean lines and the precision machining, hinting at a perfect fit.
I considered other options, including universal mounting plates and direct milling. Universal plates often add unnecessary height and can be less stable. Direct milling, while a cleaner solution, is a permanent modification I wasn’t ready to commit to. Ultimately, the Leupold base offered a balance of stability, ease of installation, and reversibility, specifically designed for my M&P CORE.
My initial reaction was excitement mixed with a touch of skepticism. While Leupold’s reputation is stellar, any aftermarket part can potentially introduce issues. I hoped this base would live up to the Leupold name and seamlessly integrate with my pistol.
