LEU BC CROSS SLOT MATTE REM 7 Review

The LEU BC CROSS SLOT MATTE REM 7 Made a Bold First Impression

The LEU BC CROSS SLOT MATTE REM 7 isn’t just another scope mount; it’s a statement. From Leupold, a name synonymous with quality optics, this mount promises a secure and reliable platform for your valuable glass. This cross slot mount, finished in a sleek matte black, is designed to provide a robust and repeatable zero, crucial for consistent accuracy in any shooting discipline. I was intrigued to see if a mount priced at $34.99 could truly deliver the performance I expect from the Leupold name.

For years, I’ve struggled with inconsistent zero shifts, especially after removing and reattaching scopes for cleaning or swapping them between rifles. This led me down the path of seeking a reliable, yet affordable, mounting solution. I was looking for something that wouldn’t break the bank but would still provide the peace of mind that my scope was securely and accurately mounted. The LEU BC CROSS SLOT MATTE REM 7 seemed to fit the bill perfectly.

Unboxing the mount, I was immediately impressed by its solid construction. The matte finish is smooth and even, giving it a professional and durable feel. The mount felt substantial in my hand, suggesting it was built to withstand the rigors of recoil and field use. It certainly exudes quality craftsmanship, especially considering the price point.

Compared to cheaper, no-name mounts I’ve used in the past, the LEU BC CROSS SLOT MATTE REM 7 felt significantly more robust. I considered other options like the Weaver Cross Lock rings, known for their secure clamping, but the Leupold’s reputation and the simplicity of the cross slot design ultimately swayed my decision. I also briefly looked at some more expensive, quick-detach mounts, but for my needs, a solid, reliable mount took precedence over speed of removal.

My first impression was definitely positive. The LEU BC CROSS SLOT MATTE REM 7 exceeded my expectations, offering a level of quality and craftsmanship I didn’t anticipate at this price. I was excited to mount it on my Remington 700 and put it through its paces.

Real-World Testing: Putting LEU BC CROSS SLOT MATTE REM 7 to the Test

First Use Experience

I first tested the LEU BC CROSS SLOT MATTE REM 7 at my local shooting range, mounting it on my trusty Remington 700 chambered in .308. This rifle is my go-to for long-range practice and hunting, so it serves as an excellent platform for evaluating scope mounts. I mounted a Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9×40 scope on it using this base.

The weather was typical for early spring – a bit damp with a slight breeze. I spent the first few rounds confirming my zero at 100 yards. The mount held the scope securely, and even with the moderate recoil of the .308, there was no noticeable shift in point of impact. I continued shooting, varying distances out to 300 yards, and the LEU BC CROSS SLOT MATTE REM 7 maintained its integrity throughout.

The ease of use was a pleasant surprise. The cross slot design made installation straightforward, and I didn’t need any specialized tools beyond a torque wrench to ensure proper tightening. There were no unexpected surprises after the first use. It simply performed as expected – securely holding the scope and maintaining zero.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several weeks of regular range trips and even a weekend hunting excursion, the LEU BC CROSS SLOT MATTE REM 7 has proven to be a reliable performer. It has held up admirably. The mount has seen around 300 rounds of .308, and it still maintains its zero consistently.

I haven’t noticed any signs of wear and tear, even after being exposed to some light rain and dust during the hunting trip. The matte finish still looks new. Maintaining the mount is incredibly simple. I just wipe it down with a clean cloth after each range session to remove any dirt or residue.

Compared to my previous experience with budget mounts that often required constant re-tightening and zero adjustments, the LEU BC CROSS SLOT MATTE REM 7 is a significant improvement. It outperforms them in terms of reliability and overall peace of mind. It instills confidence.
