Konus KonusPro 3-9x50mm Rifle Scope Review

Let’s Dive into Konus KonusPro 3-9x50mm Rifle Scope

The Konus KonusPro 3-9x50mm Rifle Scope is a versatile optic designed to provide shooters with a reliable and accurate sighting solution without breaking the bank. Konus, a brand known for offering affordable options, aims to deliver performance suitable for various shooting applications, from hunting to target practice. As someone with over a decade of experience with tactical gear, I was intrigued to see how this scope stacks up against higher-priced competitors and whether it truly offers the “brilliant value for money” some users claim.

My old scope on my .30-06 hunting rifle had finally given up the ghost, and I needed a replacement before deer season. I was specifically looking for a scope with good light-gathering capabilities for dawn and dusk hunting conditions, and the 50mm objective lens of the KonusPro caught my eye. I was also concerned about the scope’s ability to hold zero on a heavier caliber rifle.

Upon unboxing, I immediately noticed the solid construction of the KonusPro. The matte finish looks clean, and the scope feels substantial without being overly heavy, weighing in at 18 ounces. The included lens caps and cleaning cloth were a welcome addition. I considered the Vortex Crossfire II 3-9×40 and the Bushnell Banner 3-9×40, but ultimately chose the KonusPro due to its larger 50mm objective, hoping for better low-light performance.

My initial impression was one of cautious optimism. The scope appeared well-made for its price point, and I was eager to mount it and see how it performed in the field. I was also hoping that the ease of adjustment would be as advertised, so that it could be easily zeroed.

Real-World Testing: Putting Konus KonusPro 3-9x50mm Rifle Scope to the Test

First Use Experience

I first tested the Konus KonusPro 3-9x50mm Rifle Scope at my local shooting range, mounting it on my trusty .30-06. The weather was mild and sunny, providing ideal conditions for sighting in. Setting up the scope was relatively straightforward, and the finger-adjustable turrets made windage and elevation adjustments easy without needing any tools.

The clarity of the glass was surprisingly good for a scope in this price range. I was able to achieve a decent grouping after only a few adjustments. There were no unexpected problems, and it was easy to zero.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of regular use, the Konus KonusPro 3-9x50mm Rifle Scope has held up admirably. I’ve taken it on multiple hunting trips in varying weather conditions, including rain and cold temperatures. The nitrogen-purged tube has prevented any fogging issues, and the scope has maintained its zero even after being subjected to some rough handling.

The matte finish has proven to be quite durable, showing minimal signs of wear and tear despite being exposed to brush and other outdoor elements. Cleaning is simple, requiring only a quick wipe with the included lens cloth. I have owned much more expensive scopes, and I feel like this optic has provided nearly the same level of functionality.

Performance & Functionality

The Konus KonusPro 3-9x50mm Rifle Scope performs admirably for its price point. The multi-coated optics provide a clear and bright image, even in low-light conditions, and the finger-adjustable turrets make zeroing a breeze. The scope maintains its zero reliably, even after repeated recoil from a .30-06.

The scope’s biggest strength is its ability to gather light, making it ideal for early morning or late evening hunts. A minor weakness is that the reticle can be a bit difficult to see against dark backgrounds. It meets most expectations for a budget-friendly scope, but it won’t outperform higher-end models.

Design & Ergonomics

The Konus KonusPro boasts a sturdy build with a matte black finish that minimizes glare. The scope is lightweight, but the quality materials used in its construction ensure it can withstand the rigors of outdoor use. It feels comfortable in hand and doesn’t add excessive weight to the rifle.

The scope is user-friendly, with easily adjustable turrets and a simple reticle that requires minimal familiarization. The learning curve is almost non-existent, even for novice shooters. The quick and easy adjustments are a boon for field shooting.

Durability & Maintenance

With proper care, the Konus KonusPro 3-9x50mm Rifle Scope should last for years. The waterproof, fogproof, and shockproof construction ensures it can handle harsh weather conditions and accidental bumps. Maintenance is straightforward, requiring only occasional cleaning of the lenses with a soft cloth.

The robust design and heavy caliber recoil proof reticle inspires confidence in its longevity. The lenses are easily scratched, however, so be sure to store with lens covers on!

Accessories and Customization Options

The Konus KonusPro 3-9x50mm Rifle Scope comes with basic accessories, including lens caps and a cleaning cloth. The 1-inch tube diameter makes it compatible with a wide range of aftermarket rings and mounts. There are no other readily available customization options specific to this scope.

You can purchase aftermarket lens covers and sunshades to further enhance the scope’s performance. The fact that it’s a 1-inch tube scope is a huge bonus, making it compatible with almost any gun.
