Kleen-Bore Tactical/Police Long Gun Cleaning Kit 5.56x45mm NATO Review

The Kleen-Bore Tactical/Police Long Gun Cleaning Kit 5.56x45mm NATO Made a Bold First Impression

As a tactical gear specialist, I’ve seen countless cleaning kits promising the world but delivering little more than frustration. But the Kleen-Bore Tactical/Police Long Gun Cleaning Kit 5.56x45mm NATO, from the reputable Kleen-Bore company, immediately caught my eye with its promise of a comprehensive solution for maintaining the AR-15 platform. The heavy-duty carry case and inclusion of BreakFree CLP hinted at a serious commitment to quality.

My search for the perfect cleaning kit stemmed from a nagging problem: inconsistent cleaning results and bulky, disorganized kits. I wanted a single, reliable solution for my AR-15s used in training and competition. I’d grown tired of piecing together individual components. This kit seemed to offer everything in one package.

Unboxing the Kleen-Bore Tactical/Police Long Gun Cleaning Kit 5.56x45mm NATO was a pleasant surprise. The components were neatly organized within the sturdy case. The rigid steel rod felt substantial, not flimsy like some cheaper alternatives. The inclusion of both a bore brush and a mop was a welcomed feature.

I’d previously considered the Otis Technology cleaning kit and a custom-built kit from Brownells. The Otis kit felt too flexible for my liking, and the Brownells option, while customizable, ended up being significantly more expensive. The Kleen-Bore kit struck a good balance between quality and affordability.

My first impression was overwhelmingly positive. The kit felt well-made, comprehensive, and ready for serious use. I was eager to put it through its paces and see if it lived up to its potential. It was a promising start.

Real-World Testing: Putting Kleen-Bore Tactical/Police Long Gun Cleaning Kit 5.56x45mm NATO to the Test

First Use Experience

I first tested the Kleen-Bore Tactical/Police Long Gun Cleaning Kit 5.56x45mm NATO at my local shooting range after a particularly dusty day of drills with my AR-15. The conditions were far from ideal, with blowing sand and grit finding their way into every nook and cranny of my rifle. This provided the perfect environment to evaluate the kit’s effectiveness.

The kit performed admirably in these harsh conditions. The rigid steel rod easily navigated the bore, and the phosphor bronze brush effectively removed stubborn carbon buildup. The included BreakFree CLP helped to loosen fouling. The double end nylon brush made cleaning the bolt carrier group a breeze.

The ease of use was a major selling point. The rod accessory adaptor with its 8-32 thread end securely attached all the various brushes and jags. Everything felt intuitive and well-designed. This kit got my AR-15 thoroughly clean in a relatively short time.

My only initial surprise was how quickly I used the included cotton patches. I quickly realized that having extra patches on hand would be crucial for future cleaning sessions. Still, this was a minor inconvenience compared to the kit’s overall performance.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of regular use, the Kleen-Bore Tactical/Police Long Gun Cleaning Kit 5.56x45mm NATO has proven to be a reliable and durable cleaning solution. The components have held up well, with no signs of breakage or significant wear and tear. The rigid steel rod remains straight, and the brushes retain their bristles.

Maintaining the kit is simple. The components are easily cleaned with a solvent or degreaser. The case itself is robust and protects the contents from damage. I wipe down the rod and brushes after each use to prevent rust and buildup.

Compared to previous cleaning kits I’ve used, the Kleen-Bore kit has consistently outperformed them in terms of ease of use, effectiveness, and durability. It has become an indispensable part of my AR-15 maintenance routine. The Pro-Shot Bio 4X LP needle oiler has also proven useful for precise lubrication of key components.
