I was looking for a reliable and easily accessible knife to add to my EDC (everyday carry) setup. I needed something small enough to not be cumbersome, but sturdy enough to handle a variety of cutting tasks. I chose the Kershaw Auto Launch 9 Button Lock 1.8in Automatic Folding Knife due to its automatic opening feature and reputation for quality Kershaw craftsmanship.

Upon unboxing, I was immediately impressed by the Kershaw Auto Launch 9 Button Lock 1.8in Automatic Folding Knives‘ sleek design and lightweight feel. The black anodized aluminum handle felt solid and comfortable in my hand, while the Damascus steel blade added a touch of elegance. Real-World Testing: Putting Kershaw Auto Launch 9 Button Lock 1.8in Automatic Folding Knives to the Test

First Use Experience

I tested the Kershaw Auto Launch 9 Button Lock 1.8in Automatic Folding Knives during a weekend camping trip. I used it for tasks such as cutting cordage, preparing kindling, and opening packages. The knife performed admirably, and the automatic deployment made it incredibly convenient to use with one hand.

While camping, the knife experienced damp conditions, and the handle still provided a secure and solid grip. Even when my hands were slightly wet, the aluminum texture helped maintain control. The blade’s sharpness also held up well when cutting through twigs and small branches, making fire prep a breeze.

The knife was easy to use right out of the box, with no learning curve required. The button lock mechanism was intuitive and reliable, and the blade deployed quickly and smoothly every time. I found the knife to be comfortable to hold and use for extended periods, even with wet hands.

The only minor issue I encountered was the small size of the blade. While it was sufficient for most tasks, it felt somewhat limited when cutting larger pieces of wood. However, this was a trade-off I was willing to accept for the knife’s overall portability and convenience.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of regular use, the Kershaw Auto Launch 9 Button Lock 1.8in Automatic Folding Knives has proven to be a reliable and durable tool. The blade has retained its sharpness, and the automatic deployment mechanism still works flawlessly. The handle has held up well to wear and tear, with no signs of damage or loosening.

Despite being carried daily, the knife shows minimal signs of wear. The black anodized finish on the aluminum handle has proven to be resistant to scratches and scuffs. The blade has remained sharp and corrosion-free, despite being exposed to moisture and dirt.

Maintaining the knife has been relatively simple. I occasionally clean the blade with a soft cloth and apply a small amount of oil to the pivot point. The button lock mechanism requires minimal maintenance and has continued to function smoothly.

Compared to other EDC knives I’ve owned, the Kershaw Auto Launch 9 Button Lock 1.8in Automatic Folding Knives outperforms many in terms of deployment speed and ease of use. The automatic opening is significantly faster than manual folding knives, and the button lock mechanism is more secure than liner locks or frame locks.
