I was searching for a reliable and powerful 12-gauge load for pheasant hunting. I needed ammunition that could deliver consistent patterns at longer ranges, ensuring a clean and ethical harvest.
Upon receiving the Kent Cartridge Ultimate Fast Lead, I immediately noticed the quality of the packaging. The shells were neatly organized and appeared well-constructed, exuding a sense of premium quality. Picking up a shell, it felt substantial, suggesting a generous payload.
Compared to Winchester Super-X and Federal Premium Upland, the Kent Cartridge Ultimate Fast Lead stood out due to its advertised Diamond Shot and higher muzzle velocity. First Use Experience
My first test was on a pheasant hunt in South Dakota. The conditions were typical for late fall: cool, with a slight breeze.
The Kent Cartridge Ultimate Fast Lead performed admirably. The shells cycled smoothly through my Benelli Montefeltro, and the recoil was manageable for a 1 1/2 oz load. I found that the patterns were indeed tighter than what I was used to with other brands. This allowed me to ethically harvest birds at distances that would have been questionable with my previous loads.
There were no malfunctions or issues during the initial outing. The performance was consistent and predictable, inspiring confidence in the ammunition.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of hunting and range sessions, the Kent Cartridge Ultimate Fast Lead has proven to be a reliable performer. I’ve fired approximately 100 rounds of this ammunition without a single failure to feed, fire, or eject.
The shells have shown no signs of degradation or performance loss over time. They’ve been stored in various conditions, from mild temperatures to cold, damp environments, and have consistently performed as expected. Cleaning my shotgun after using this ammunition has been relatively straightforward, with no excessive fouling or residue.
Compared to my previous experiences with Winchester and Federal, the Kent Cartridge Ultimate Fast Lead has consistently delivered tighter patterns and more reliable performance. It has instilled a higher level of confidence in my shooting ability and the overall success of my hunts.

Performance & Functionality
The Kent Cartridge Ultimate Fast Lead excels in delivering tight, consistent patterns at varying distances. The Diamond Shot technology truly enhances pattern density and reduces flyers.
The ammunition exhibits reliable ignition and consistent velocities, contributing to predictable and accurate shots. However, the heavier payload does produce slightly more recoil than lighter loads, which might be a concern for recoil-sensitive shooters. It exceeded my expectations in terms of pattern consistency and downrange energy.
Design & Ergonomics
The Kent Cartridge Ultimate Fast Lead features a standard 2 3/4-inch shell design. The quality of materials used in the shell construction is evident.
The shells load and eject smoothly from various shotgun models. The slightly increased recoil is noticeable but manageable, even during extended shooting sessions.
Durability & Maintenance
The shells are constructed with durable plastic casings that resist deformation and damage during storage and handling. The components are sealed to prevent moisture intrusion and maintain consistent performance.
Cleaning a shotgun after using this ammunition is no more difficult than with other lead-based loads. Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure optimal performance and longevity of both the ammunition and the firearm.
Accessories and Customization Options
There are no specific accessories that come directly with the Kent Cartridge Ultimate Fast Lead. As ammunition, its customization options are limited to choke selection.
Pairing this ammunition with a quality aftermarket choke tube, such as a Carlson’s or Briley choke, can further refine pattern performance. Ensure that the chosen choke is compatible with lead shot.
