First Impressions of Keiron PRO Deluxe NVG Starter Pack
The Keiron PRO Deluxe NVG Starter Pack promises a comprehensive and advanced training solution for those looking to hone their skills in low-light and nighttime scenarios. Manufactured by Keiron, this kit boasts reactive targets, a moving target, and a timer, all designed to work seamlessly with night vision devices and green lasers. This caught my eye as a long-time trainer focused on specialized operations, so I was eager to see if it lived up to the hype, especially given the significant investment.
I’ve always advocated for realistic training, and the lack of accessible, high-quality NVG training tools has been a consistent frustration. Most of what’s out there is either too basic or prohibitively expensive for smaller teams. This package presented a potential middle ground.
The Keiron PRO Deluxe NVG Starter Pack arrived well-packaged. Unboxing it revealed a solid construction for all the components, which immediately gave me confidence. Compared to cheaper alternatives I’ve experimented with, the materials and build quality appeared significantly more robust. The price point is steep, however, the initial impression was positive, suggesting a potentially worthwhile upgrade to our training capabilities.
Real-World Testing: Putting Keiron PRO Deluxe NVG Starter Pack to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the Keiron PRO Deluxe NVG Starter Pack at our team’s private training facility, a mock urban environment built to simulate real-world operational scenarios. Conditions were varied, ranging from complete darkness under cloud cover to partially illuminated areas with simulated streetlights. Setting up the targets was straightforward, and the responsiveness to green lasers was immediately apparent.
The Swinger PRO moving target added a dynamic element previously missing from our NVG training drills. A minor initial issue arose with the timer synchronization, requiring a quick consult of the user manual, but after that, the system worked flawlessly.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of regular use, the Keiron PRO Deluxe NVG Starter Pack has proven to be impressively durable. Despite being subjected to rigorous drills and varied weather conditions, including light rain and dusty environments, the targets continue to function without issue. Maintenance is simple: occasional wiping down to remove dirt and replacing batteries, as needed.
Compared to previous target systems we’ve used, the Keiron PRO Deluxe NVG Starter Pack offers superior reliability and versatility. The reactive targets provide immediate feedback, and the moving target significantly enhances the realism and complexity of our training exercises.
Breaking Down the Features of Keiron PRO Deluxe NVG Starter Pack
Specifications
- The Keiron PRO Deluxe NVG Starter Pack includes 10 Target PRO targets that react to green lasers and filter infrared lasers, allowing for both day and night training. This ensures consistent results regardless of lighting conditions.
- A Swinger PRO moving target adds a dynamic element to training exercises, requiring trainees to adapt to moving threats. This is critical for developing reactive shooting skills in low-light environments.
- The kit also features a PRO Timer for precisely measuring engagement times and tracking progress. It’s essential for performance analysis and skill improvement.
- Each target requires AA Alkaline batteries, ensuring ease of replacement and consistent power. Battery life appears to be quite reasonable so far, even with prolonged use.
- The targets and timer are predominantly Black, likely for minimizing visibility during operations, especially when using night vision devices. The low profile is appreciated.
Performance & Functionality
The Keiron PRO Deluxe NVG Starter Pack excels at creating realistic and challenging NVG training scenarios. The reactive targets provide instant feedback, forcing trainees to focus on accuracy and shot placement. The moving target adds a layer of complexity, simulating real-world engagements.
The PRO Timer accurately tracks engagement times, allowing for detailed performance analysis. While the initial timer setup was slightly confusing, once configured, it performs admirably.
Design & Ergonomics
The Keiron PRO Deluxe NVG Starter Pack features a robust and durable design. The targets are constructed from high-impact materials, capable of withstanding repeated use. The timer and moving target are also well-built and easy to handle.
While the targets are relatively lightweight, their size can make them slightly cumbersome to transport in bulk. The design prioritizes functionality and durability over extreme portability, which is a reasonable trade-off.
Durability & Maintenance
Given its construction, the Keiron PRO Deluxe NVG Starter Pack appears built to last. The materials are resistant to wear and tear, and the electronics are well-protected. Maintenance is minimal, primarily consisting of battery replacement and cleaning.
The system’s modular design also simplifies potential repairs. Individual components can be easily replaced if needed, extending the lifespan of the entire kit.
Accessories and Customization Options
The Keiron PRO Deluxe NVG Starter Pack comes with all the necessary components for setting up a comprehensive NVG training range. Additional targets can be purchased separately to expand the training area. While not explicitly mentioned, the targets are likely compatible with standard tripod mounts, allowing for flexible placement options.
Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a dedicated carry case included, which is a noticeable omission for a kit at this price point. That would greatly assist with transport and organization.
