IMI Defense MTG M-LOK Vertical Grip Review

What Makes the IMI Defense MTG M-LOK Vertical Grip Stand Out?

The IMI Defense MTG M-LOK Vertical Grip is a seemingly simple accessory, but one that can significantly impact weapon control and overall shooting experience. Produced by IMI Defense, a company known for its tactical accessories and firearm components, this grip promises enhanced ergonomics and weapon manipulation. As someone with over a decade of experience in the outdoor and tactical gear realm, I’ve seen my fair share of vertical grips, some game-changers, others… not so much.

What drew me to the IMI Defense MTG M-LOK Vertical Grip was its promise of M-LOK compatibility and integrated storage. I was specifically looking for a low-profile, lightweight grip that would allow me to maintain a solid hold on my AR-15 platform while also providing a convenient space to stow ear protection. I was tired of fumbling for my earplugs on the range.

Upon unboxing, the grip felt surprisingly robust despite its light weight. The polymer construction felt solid, and the matte finish gave it a tactical, no-nonsense aesthetic. Compared to other grips I’ve used, such as the Magpul MVG and the BCMGunfighter Vertical Grip Mod 3, the IMI Defense MTG M-LOK Vertical Grip immediately stood out for its integrated storage compartment and slightly shorter overall length. I had considered those, but the storage pushed me to try this one.

My initial impression was positive. It felt well-made, looked good, and the storage compartment was a welcome feature. I was eager to see how it would perform on the range and in more dynamic shooting scenarios.

Real-World Testing: Putting IMI Defense MTG M-LOK Vertical Grip to the Test

First Use Experience

I first tested the IMI Defense MTG M-LOK Vertical Grip at my local shooting range during a typical afternoon session. The weather was fair, around 75 degrees Fahrenheit with a slight breeze. I mounted the grip onto my AR-15 equipped with an M-LOK handguard and immediately noticed an improvement in my grip.

The grip’s texture provided a secure hold even with slightly sweaty hands, and its ergonomic design allowed for a more natural wrist angle. The IMI Defense MTG M-LOK Vertical Grip improved my control during rapid firing drills. The integrated storage compartment was also a pleasant surprise.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several weeks of regular use, the IMI Defense MTG M-LOK Vertical Grip has held up admirably. There are no signs of cracking or significant wear, despite being subjected to repeated mounting and dismounting. I’ve also used it during a few force-on-force training scenarios where the grip inevitably takes a beating; it still performs reliably.

Cleaning the grip is simple. A quick wipe-down with a damp cloth is usually all that’s needed to remove dirt and grime. The IMI Defense MTG M-LOK Vertical Grip outperforms my previous experience with cheaper, polymer grips that would often become slick or develop cracks after extended use.
