Hornady Pistol Case Black 1 Handgun Cordura Review

First Thoughts on the Hornady Pistol Case Black 1 Handgun Cordura

The Hornady Pistol Case Black 1 Handgun Cordura is a seemingly simple, yet essential piece of gear for any firearm owner. From Hornady, a trusted name in ammunition and reloading equipment, this case promises to provide basic protection and convenient storage for a single handgun. As someone who’s seen countless pistols damaged during transport due to inadequate cases, I was eager to assess if this budget-friendly option could offer sufficient protection without breaking the bank.

I needed a simple, affordable case for transporting my backup pistol to the range. Most of my handguns reside in larger, more robust hard cases, but a smaller, lighter option was needed for quick trips. The Hornady Pistol Case Black 1 Handgun Cordura seemed to fit the bill, especially given its compact size and durable Cordura construction.

Upon unboxing, the case felt surprisingly sturdy. The Cordura material felt rugged, and the stitching appeared well-executed. While it obviously lacked the rigid structure of a hard case, it didn’t feel flimsy or cheap. I compared it to a similar pistol case from Allen, which felt noticeably thinner, and a slightly pricier Uncle Mike’s case that offered slightly more padding. The Hornady case seemed to strike a good balance between affordability and quality.

My first impression was cautiously optimistic. It’s not the fanciest pistol case, but it seemed well-made for the price and fit my specific needs. I was excited to put it to the test and see how it held up in real-world conditions.

Real-World Testing: Putting Hornady Pistol Case Black 1 Handgun Cordura to the Test

First Use Experience

I first tested the Hornady Pistol Case Black 1 Handgun Cordura during a trip to my local shooting range. The weather was mild and sunny, providing ideal conditions for testing its functionality and ease of use. The case held my Glock 19 perfectly, with just enough room for the pistol and a spare magazine.

The case was incredibly easy to use; simply unzip, insert the handgun, and zip it back up. No fuss, no muss. After a full day at the range, I inspected the case for any signs of wear or tear. Everything looked intact.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of regular use, the Hornady Pistol Case Black 1 Handgun Cordura continues to perform reliably. I’ve used it in various conditions, including a few rainy days and one particularly dusty outing. The Cordura material has proven to be surprisingly resilient.

There are no significant signs of wear and tear, besides some minor dirt accumulation. Cleaning the case is a breeze; I simply wipe it down with a damp cloth. The Hornady case has performed admirably, consistently protecting my handgun during transport. It easily outperforms the cheap canvas cases I’ve used in the past, offering a much better level of protection and durability.
