The Hornady LEVERevolution .45 Colt 225 Grain Flex Tip eXpanding Centerfire Pistol Ammunition
Up to 14% Off represents a modern take on a classic cartridge, designed to enhance the performance of lever-action firearms. Hornady, known for innovation, aimed to improve upon traditional .45 Colt ammunition with its patented Flex Tip technology. This ammunition promises flatter trajectories, increased downrange energy, and enhanced safety in tubular magazines.
I was seeking a reliable and accurate round for my lever-action Henry rifle that could serve dual purposes: target practice and ethical hunting of medium game. I’d grown tired of the limitations of traditional flat-nosed .45 Colt rounds. They often lacked the ballistic coefficient needed for longer-range accuracy and optimal terminal performance.
The packaging was standard Hornady – clean, informative, and reassuringly robust. The cartridges themselves looked sleek, with the distinctive red Flex Tip immediately catching my eye. The brass casings were pristine, and the overall build quality appeared top-notch.
Compared to standard lead round nose and flat point .45 Colt ammunition, the Hornady LEVERevolution stood out for its modern design. I also considered Buffalo Bore’s heavy .45 Colt loads. However, I prioritized the enhanced ballistic coefficient and safety of the Flex Tip design for my lever-action rifle’s tubular magazine.
My initial impression was excitement. The Hornady LEVERevolution promised to modernize a classic cartridge. The potential for improved accuracy and terminal performance was very intriguing.

First Use Experience
I first tested the Hornady LEVERevolution at my local shooting range, focusing on targets at 50 and 100 yards. The weather was mild and dry, ideal for assessing accuracy. I shot from a rest to minimize human error.
The ammunition performed admirably. I immediately noticed a flatter trajectory compared to standard .45 Colt loads. Recoil was manageable, and the rounds cycled smoothly through my Henry rifle.
The ease of use was excellent; I simply loaded the cartridges into the magazine tube and began shooting. No adjustments or modifications were required. I experienced no malfunctions during the initial testing session.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of use, the Hornady LEVERevolution continues to perform reliably. I’ve fired hundreds of rounds through my Henry rifle without any issues. The ammunition has proven itself consistent and dependable.
I’ve noticed no significant signs of wear and tear on my rifle or the cartridges themselves. The brass casings remain in excellent condition even after repeated handling. Cleaning is standard; I use a bore snake and solvent after each shooting session.
Compared to my previous experiences with standard .45 Colt ammunition, the Hornady LEVERevolution has significantly improved my accuracy at longer ranges. The flatter trajectory allows me to confidently engage targets at 100 yards and beyond. The added benefit of reliable expansion makes it a clear winner for hunting applications.
