82244 17% Off is specifically designed for hunters seeking maximum impact and terminal performance in a straight-walled cartridge. This ammunition combines Hornady’s renowned quality with the devastating power of the .450 Bushmaster, making it a top choice for deer, hog, and even black bear hunting within legal straight-walled cartridge zones. The Flex Tip eXpanding (FTX) bullet ensures reliable expansion at a variety of ranges, transferring massive energy to the target.
I was seeking a reliable and accurate round for my .450 Bushmaster AR-15, primarily for deer hunting in the Midwest. Many states now allow straight-walled cartridges for deer season, and the .450 Bushmaster offered significantly more power than traditional shotgun slugs. I needed ammunition that could deliver consistent accuracy at typical hunting ranges (50-200 yards) and provide humane, quick kills.
Upon receiving the ammunition, I was immediately impressed by the packaging. The rounds were neatly arranged in the box, and each cartridge appeared pristine with a bright, polished brass casing. The FTX bullet tip was well-formed and protected, indicating careful manufacturing and quality control. The weight felt substantial, giving a sense of potent energy.
I considered other .450 Bushmaster options, including Federal Power-Shok and Winchester Super-X. I ultimately chose the Hornady Custom due to Hornady’s reputation for quality and the FTX bullet design, which promised reliable expansion. Some rounds I’ve tested previously have inconsistent expansion, resulting in poorer terminal performance.
My first impression was excitement mixed with anticipation. I felt confident that this ammunition would perform well based on Hornady’s track record and the reviews I had read. I was eager to get to the range and test its accuracy and terminal performance.
