The Holosun HS407C X2 1x Red 2 MOA Dot Reflex Sight – CR1632 Battery, Unlimited Eye Relief, 1x Fixed Magnification, 1.78″ Length Made a Bold First Impression
The Holosun HS407C X2 1x Red 2 MOA Dot Reflex Sight isn’t just another red dot; it’s a testament to Holosun’s commitment to providing high-quality optics at a price point that doesn’t require you to sell your car. This compact optic boasts features usually found on sights costing twice as much, including a crisp 2 MOA dot, shake awake technology, and a solar failsafe. After years of using various red dots, from budget options to high-end behemoths, I was looking for a balance between performance, durability, and affordability.
I needed a reliable optic for my everyday carry pistol, something that could handle the rigors of daily use and still provide quick and accurate target acquisition. I’d been eyeing the Holosun line for some time, drawn to their reputation for innovative features and robust construction. Unboxing the HS407C X2, I was immediately struck by its compact size and lightweight feel. The black anodized finish looked clean and professional, and the sight felt incredibly solid in my hand.
Compared to my older Trijicon RMR (which is a fantastic optic, albeit at a higher price point) and a Sig Sauer Romeo5, the HS407C X2 presented a compelling combination of size, features, and price. I chose the Holosun because I wanted solar backup and the smaller dot size, without spending over $500. My first impression was definitely positive – I was excited to see how it would perform on the range and in real-world carry scenarios.
Real-World Testing: Putting Holosun HS407C X2 1x Red 2 MOA Dot Reflex Sight – CR1632 Battery, Unlimited Eye Relief, 1x Fixed Magnification, 1.78″ Length to the Test
First Use Experience
My first outing with the Holosun HS407C X2 was at my local outdoor range, mounting it on my Glock 19. The weather was typical for an early spring day: overcast with a slight drizzle. Even in the less-than-ideal lighting conditions, the 2 MOA red dot was crisp and easy to acquire.
The sight adjustments were precise and tactile, allowing me to quickly zero the optic at 25 yards. I ran several drills, focusing on rapid target acquisition and transitions, and the HS407C X2 performed flawlessly. I didn’t experience any issues with the dot washing out or flickering, and the shake awake feature worked as advertised, instantly activating the sight when I drew my pistol.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of carrying my Glock 19 with the Holosun HS407C X2 daily, I can confidently say that it has held up remarkably well. The anodized finish shows minimal signs of wear, even after being subjected to the inevitable bumps and scrapes of everyday carry. Cleaning is a breeze; a quick wipe with a microfiber cloth keeps the lens clear and free of smudges.
Compared to some other optics I’ve used in the past, the HS407C X2 has proven to be exceptionally reliable. I’ve put several hundred rounds through my Glock with the Holosun mounted, and it has maintained its zero without any noticeable shift. The battery life, even without relying on the solar failsafe, seems excellent; I haven’t had to replace the CR1632 battery yet.
