Let’s Dive into Hogue Taurus PT-99 PT-92 PT-100 PT-101 Handgun Grip Rosewood Safety Only Checkered 99911
The Hogue Taurus PT-99 PT-92 PT-100 PT-101 Handgun Grip Rosewood Safety Only Checkered 99911 is a beautiful and functional upgrade for a classic series of handguns. Crafted by Hogue, a name synonymous with quality grips, this rosewood grip is designed specifically for Taurus models with a frame-mounted safety. The checkered pattern promises enhanced grip, while the rosewood offers a touch of class to a robust firearm.
After years of relying on factory grips, I yearned for a more refined feel and aesthetic on my trusty PT-92. The original grips felt slick, particularly during extended range sessions or in humid conditions. I was searching for a grip that not only improved my purchase but also elevated the overall look of my firearm.
Upon unboxing the Hogue grips, my initial impression was one of quality and craftsmanship. The rosewood was richly colored and smoothly finished, with the checkering providing a tactile and secure surface. The weight felt substantial, a good sign of the density and quality of the wood used.
Compared to other aftermarket grip options, like rubberized grips from Pachmayr or synthetic grips from Magpul, I chose the Hogue rosewood grips for their blend of classic aesthetics and functional enhancement. While rubberized grips offer excellent traction, I find they can sometimes feel too “sticky.” The synthetic grips are durable, but lack the warmth and character of natural wood.
I was genuinely excited to install these grips and experience the difference they would make on my Taurus. The promise of improved grip and a more refined appearance had me eager to hit the range. My initial feeling was not disappointment, but anticipation to test this new grip.
Real-World Testing: Putting Hogue Taurus PT-99 PT-92 PT-100 PT-101 Handgun Grip Rosewood Safety Only Checkered 99911 to the Test
First Use Experience
My first test took place at my local outdoor shooting range, a familiar environment for evaluating handgun upgrades. I ran through a series of drills, focusing on grip consistency, recoil control, and overall handling of my Taurus PT-92. The Rosewood felt amazing during those drills.
The Hogue grips performed admirably, even during a light rain shower. The checkered pattern provided excellent traction, even with slightly damp hands, allowing for a secure and confident grip. The enhanced grip drastically improved the handling during the rainy session.
The installation was straightforward, requiring only a few minutes and basic tools. The fit was precise, with no noticeable gaps or movement. There was zero learning curve. The first use immediately yielded positive results.
There were no real issues encountered during the initial range session; the grips performed exactly as expected. The only minor surprise was the slightly increased perceived recoil, likely due to the harder wood compared to the original grips, but this was easily manageable.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Hogue Taurus PT-99 PT-92 PT-100 PT-101 Handgun Grip Rosewood Safety Only Checkered 99911 has held up remarkably well. The rosewood has retained its rich color and smooth finish, with no signs of cracking or splitting. It still holds up very well.
The durability has proven impressive; there are only minor signs of wear around the edges of the grip where it meets the frame. The checkering remains sharp and effective, providing consistent grip even after repeated handling and cleaning. They are very durable grips.
Maintenance is simple: a quick wipe down with a soft cloth and occasional application of furniture polish keeps the rosewood looking its best. The grips show no signs of wear and tear. This simple maintenance has been sufficient to maintain the grips’ condition.
Compared to my previous experiences with other grips, the Hogue rosewood grips have significantly outperformed the factory grips and held their own against more expensive aftermarket options. The Hogue grips provide a superior combination of comfort, control, and aesthetics. These definitely exceed my expectations.
