The Hogue Remington 700 BDL L.A. Standard Barrel PillarBed Stock OD Green 70201 is more than just a replacement stock; it’s an upgrade promising enhanced accuracy and superior handling for your beloved Remington 700. Crafted by Hogue, a name synonymous with quality firearm accessories, this stock boasts a pillar-bedded design and a comfortable OverMolded rubber exterior in a classic OD Green finish. This isn’t just about aesthetics, though; it’s about transforming your rifle into a precision instrument.
My journey to this particular stock began with a quest for improved accuracy on my aging Remington 700 BDL in .30-06. The factory wood stock, while aesthetically pleasing, exhibited significant flex, especially under varying weather conditions, impacting my shot consistency. I needed a solution that offered a stable and weather-resistant platform without breaking the bank.
The initial unboxing experience was immediately positive. The Hogue stock felt solid and well-made, with a noticeable weight that conveyed a sense of quality. The OverMolded rubber provided a comfortable and secure grip, and the OD Green color exuded a tactical yet understated vibe.
Compared to other options like the Bell and Carlson Medalist or the Magpul Hunter 700, the Hogue stock stood out for its simplicity and value proposition. While the others offered more adjustability and modularity, the Hogue promised a straightforward upgrade with proven accuracy enhancements, at a more accessible price point. My first impression was one of excitement; I felt confident that this stock would deliver on its promise of improved performance.
Real-World Testing: Putting Hogue Remington 700 BDL L.A. Standard Barrel PillarBed Stock OD Green 70201 to the Test
First Use Experience
I initially tested the Hogue Remington 700 BDL L.A. Standard Barrel PillarBed Stock OD Green 70201 at my local shooting range, focusing on group size at 100 and 200 yards. The weather was mild and sunny, providing ideal conditions for testing the stock’s immediate impact on accuracy. The rifle felt noticeably more stable, and the improved grip allowed for better control and recoil management.
The difference was immediately apparent; my groups tightened up considerably compared to the factory stock. With the original wood stock, my average 100-yard groups were around 1.5-2 inches, whereas with the Hogue, I consistently achieved sub-MOA groups using the same ammunition. The improved stability instilled confidence, and the rifle felt like an entirely new beast. I needed no time to adjust, it immediately felt natural.
The only minor issue I encountered was slightly tighter magazine insertion, which could be attributed to the new stock’s tighter tolerances. This proved to be a non-issue, resolving itself with a little use.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, including a deer hunting trip in moderately harsh conditions (cold and slightly wet), the Hogue stock continues to perform flawlessly. The OverMolded rubber provides exceptional grip even when wet, and the stock shows no signs of wear or degradation. The pillar bedding ensures consistent accuracy despite changes in temperature and humidity.
Maintenance is a breeze; a quick wipe-down with a damp cloth is all it takes to keep the stock clean. Compared to my previous experiences with wood stocks requiring regular oiling and maintenance, the Hogue is refreshingly low-maintenance. It vastly outperforms my previous stock in terms of stability and weather resistance.
