Hickok45 Pistol Rug Case Review

The Hickok45 Pistol Rug Case Made a Bold First Impression

The Hickok45 Pistol Rug Case arrived, and honestly, I wasn’t expecting a high-end luxury item for ten bucks. What I was hoping for was decent protection for my handguns during transport to the range and storage. This case, bearing the name of a well-respected figure in the firearms community, immediately sparked my interest, promising a no-frills, functional solution.

I’ve been lugging firearms around for over a decade, constantly searching for the sweet spot between security, convenience, and affordability. Before this, I relied on everything from repurposed camera bags to bulky, hard-sided cases. The camera bags offered some padding but screamed “expensive gear inside!” while the hard cases were overkill for routine range trips.

Upon unboxing, I was pleasantly surprised by the feel of the 600D polyester shell. It felt tougher than I anticipated, promising some resistance to abrasion and light moisture. The high-density foam padding inside was adequate; not plush, but certainly capable of preventing scratches and minor dings during transport. I picked this over other budget cases due to the Hickok45 name, hoping for a product built with a shooter’s needs in mind.

My first impression was positive – a practical, budget-friendly case that seems to deliver on its promise. It’s not going to stop a determined thief, but it provides a safe and discreet way to transport my handguns. The real test, however, would be how it performs in the field.

Real-World Testing: Putting Hickok45 Pistol Rug Case to the Test

First Use Experience

My initial testing ground was the local shooting range. I needed a way to safely transport my Glock 19 and a 1911 without scratching them up against each other in my range bag. The Hickok45 Pistol Rug Case fit the bill perfectly, easily accommodating each handgun separately.

The weather was slightly damp, and the range benches were a bit dusty. The 600D polyester shell shrugged off the light moisture with no problem, and the interior remained clean and dust-free. Using it was straightforward: unzip, insert the pistol, zip up, and go. There was no learning curve involved.

The one minor issue I noticed was the small pocket on the exterior. It’s barely large enough to hold a single magazine, as confirmed by other users. I had hoped to stash a small cleaning kit or a speedloader in there, but that wasn’t feasible.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of consistent use, the Hickok45 Pistol Rug Case has held up surprisingly well. I’ve used it at least twice a week, transporting various handguns to and from the range. It has also served as a padded storage solution in my gun safe.

There are no significant signs of wear and tear. The zippers still function smoothly, and the stitching remains intact. The padding hasn’t flattened out or lost its shape. Cleaning is also a breeze; a quick wipe down with a damp cloth is usually all it takes.

Compared to previous soft cases I’ve used, this one seems more durable, especially considering its low price point. It’s certainly a step up from throwing a pistol in a generic range bag compartment.
