Hawke Sport Optics XB30 Compact 1.5-6×36 SR IR Crossbow Scope Review

Let’s Talk About Hawke Sport Optics XB30 Compact 1.5-6×36 SR IR Crossbow Scope

The Hawke Sport Optics XB30 Compact 1.5-6×36 SR IR Crossbow Scope is a purpose-built optic designed to elevate the crossbow hunting experience. Crafted by Hawke Sport Optics, this scope aims to provide crossbow hunters with the accuracy, reliability, and versatility needed to succeed in the field. It features a compact design, illuminated reticle, and a speed selector ring, making it a compelling option for crossbow enthusiasts of all skill levels.

I was on the hunt for a crossbow scope that could handle varied hunting conditions and improve my long-range accuracy. My previous scope, a basic model with fixed magnification, struggled in low light and made judging distance accurately a challenge, especially when hunting whitetail in dense forests. I wanted something that could adjust to different lighting conditions, provide better clarity at longer ranges, and offer a reliable holdover system for ethical shots.

When I first unboxed the Hawke Sport Optics XB30 Compact 1.5-6×36 SR IR Crossbow Scope, I was immediately struck by its solid build quality. The scope feels robust and well-made, with a noticeable heft that inspires confidence. The matte black finish is clean and functional, and the adjustment turrets have a positive, tactile feel.

I considered the Vortex Crossfire II Crossbow Scope and the Excalibur Twilight DLX, both popular options in this category. The Vortex seemed a little too basic, lacking the speed selector and advanced reticle features of the Hawke. The Excalibur, while a great scope, was pricier and I wanted to test the Hawke’s compact design.

My initial impression was one of cautious optimism. The Hawke Sport Optics XB30 Compact 1.5-6×36 SR IR Crossbow Scope looked the part, but I was eager to see how it performed in real-world hunting scenarios. I anticipated this scope would give me an edge in various lighting and ranging situations.

Real-World Testing: Putting Hawke Sport Optics XB30 Compact 1.5-6×36 SR IR Crossbow Scope to the Test

First Use Experience

I first tested the Hawke Sport Optics XB30 Compact 1.5-6×36 SR IR Crossbow Scope at my local archery range, focusing on sighting-in and familiarizing myself with the reticle. The range offered various distances, allowing me to test the scope’s accuracy at 20, 40, 60, and 80 yards. Weather was variable, with a mix of sun and cloud cover, providing a good test of the illuminated reticle’s effectiveness.

The scope performed admirably in varying conditions. Even with the sun behind me and reflecting off the target, the illuminated reticle’s different brightness settings allowed clear target acquisition. The 1.5-6x magnification range proved versatile, offering a wide field of view for close-range shots and sufficient zoom for longer distances.

The learning curve was minimal; the user manual was clear and concise, making the sighting-in process straightforward. Adjusting the speed selector ring to match my crossbow’s arrow speed was simple and intuitive. After initial adjustments, the scope consistently held zero, giving me confidence in its reliability.

Initially, I noticed that the zoom ring required a bit of effort to turn, especially when wearing gloves. This was something that I needed to adjust to. However, after a short time the operation of the zoom ring became smoother.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several weeks of regular use, the Hawke Sport Optics XB30 Compact 1.5-6×36 SR IR Crossbow Scope has proven to be a reliable and durable optic. I’ve taken it on multiple hunting trips, encountering rain, dust, and varying temperatures, and it has consistently performed well.

The scope has held up well, showing no signs of wear and tear beyond minor cosmetic scuffs. The lenses remain clear and scratch-free, and the turrets maintain their positive click adjustments. The nitrogen-purged tube has prevented any fogging or internal condensation, ensuring a clear sight picture in all weather conditions.

Maintaining the scope is simple; I wipe down the lenses with a lens cloth after each use and occasionally clean the exterior with a damp cloth. The battery for the illuminated reticle lasts a respectable amount of time, and replacing it is quick and easy. It is a simple CR2032.

The Hawke Sport Optics XB30 Compact 1.5-6×36 SR IR Crossbow Scope outperforms my previous scope in every aspect. Its clarity, versatility, and reliability have significantly improved my accuracy and confidence in the field. I no longer hesitate to take longer shots and have successfully harvested multiple deer with this scope.
