The GUNTEC MULTI CAL COLLAPSIBLE Made a Bold First Impression
The GUNTEC MULTI CAL COLLAPSIBLE stock set with adjustable cheek riser immediately struck me as a potential solution for shooters needing versatility and adaptability in their firearm platform. Priced at $109.99, it promised to bridge the gap between fixed stocks and higher-end adjustable options. My journey to this product began when I realized my existing AR platform lacked the necessary customization for different shooting positions and optics setups.
I was specifically looking for a stock that could accommodate various calibers without sacrificing stability or comfort. Unboxing the GUNTEC MULTI CAL COLLAPSIBLE, I was initially impressed by the robust feel of the polymer and the seemingly straightforward design. The adjustable cheek riser looked promising for achieving a proper cheek weld with different optic heights.
I had been considering the Magpul MOE SL-K and the BCM Gunfighter stock, but the GUNTEC option offered the adjustable cheek riser at a similar price point, something the others lacked without additional aftermarket components. Ultimately, the perceived value and the promise of multi-caliber compatibility swayed my decision. My first impression was one of cautious optimism.
Real-World Testing: Putting GUNTEC MULTI CAL COLLAPSIBLE to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing of the GUNTEC MULTI CAL COLLAPSIBLE took place at my local outdoor shooting range. I mounted it on an AR-15 lower receiver and ran it through several drills using both .223/5.56 and .300 Blackout uppers. The weather was typical for early spring – slightly damp with a persistent breeze.
The stock was easy enough to install, though the fit was snug on my mil-spec buffer tube. Adjusting the cheek riser proved simple and effective in aligning my eye with different optic heights. However, I noticed a slight wobble in the stock, even when fully collapsed or extended, which was initially concerning.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use across various range sessions and a weekend-long training course, the GUNTEC MULTI CAL COLLAPSIBLE has held up reasonably well. The polymer shows minimal signs of wear, although the finish has started to fade slightly in areas of high contact. I have made sure to regularly clean and lubricate the buffer tube to keep the stock moving freely.
The wobble I initially noticed has persisted, becoming a minor annoyance rather than a functional hindrance. Compared to my experience with fixed A2 stocks and higher-end adjustable stocks like those from BCM, the GUNTEC offering falls short in terms of overall rigidity. However, given the price point and the added adjustability, it still provides acceptable performance.
Breaking Down the Features of GUNTEC MULTI CAL COLLAPSIBLE
Specifications
The GUNTEC MULTI CAL COLLAPSIBLE stock set is designed for AR-15 platforms utilizing a mil-spec buffer tube. It features a multi-position collapsible design allowing for adjustable length-of-pull, as well as an adjustable cheek riser for optimal sight alignment. The materials consist primarily of durable polymer for the stock body and a metal adjustment mechanism for the cheek riser.
The multi-caliber compatibility means it’s designed to work with a variety of AR-15 calibers, from .223/5.56 to .300 Blackout, and even 9mm AR platforms. The adjustable cheek riser allows for customization with various optic setups, including red dots, holographic sights, and magnified scopes. These features cater to shooters who frequently switch between different uppers or require precise cheek weld for enhanced accuracy.
Performance & Functionality
The GUNTEC MULTI CAL COLLAPSIBLE performs its primary function adequately, providing a stable platform for shouldering the rifle and aiming. The adjustable length-of-pull is a welcome feature, allowing for comfortable use with different body sizes and shooting styles. While the cheek riser improves sight alignment, the slight wobble in the stock detracts from overall stability.
The stock’s main strength is its adaptability. Its main weakness is the noticeable wobble. While it meets basic expectations for a collapsible stock, it falls short of providing the rock-solid feel of higher-end options.
Design & Ergonomics
The GUNTEC MULTI CAL COLLAPSIBLE features a relatively streamlined design with a focus on functionality over aesthetics. The polymer construction keeps the weight down, and the textured buttpad provides a secure grip against the shoulder. Ergonomically, the stock is reasonably comfortable, although the cheek riser adjustment knob can sometimes interfere with the charging handle depending on the user’s grip.
The build quality is acceptable for the price point, but it is not exceptional. The stock is generally user-friendly, with intuitive adjustment mechanisms for both the length-of-pull and cheek riser. However, the initial snug fit on the buffer tube may require some effort during installation.
Durability & Maintenance
Based on my experience, the GUNTEC MULTI CAL COLLAPSIBLE appears to be reasonably durable for typical range use and recreational shooting. The polymer construction is resistant to scratches and impacts, and the metal adjustment mechanism seems sturdy enough to withstand regular use. Long-term durability remains to be seen, but I anticipate it will hold up well with proper care and maintenance.
Maintenance is straightforward, requiring only occasional cleaning with a mild detergent and lubrication of the buffer tube. The stock is easy to disassemble for cleaning, and replacement parts are readily available if needed.
Accessories and Customization Options
The GUNTEC MULTI CAL COLLAPSIBLE stock set does not come with any additional accessories beyond the stock itself. However, it is compatible with standard mil-spec buffer tubes and endplates, allowing for a wide range of customization options. Users can easily swap out the buffer tube for different lengths or weights to fine-tune the rifle’s recoil characteristics.
The cheek riser is the main customization feature, allowing users to adjust the height for different optic setups. While GUNTEC does not offer any direct accessories for the stock, it is compatible with aftermarket sling mounts and buttpad replacements designed for mil-spec AR-15 stocks.
