Let’s Talk About GrovTec US Padded Molle BalancePoint Sling w/Locking Swivels
As someone who’s spent over a decade slinging rifles in various environments, from the controlled chaos of tactical training to the serene, yet demanding, landscapes of backcountry hunts, I’ve learned that a good sling is more than just an accessory – it’s a critical piece of gear. The GrovTec US Padded Molle BalancePoint Sling w/Locking Swivels promises to be a next-generation solution, integrating MOLLE compatibility with enhanced comfort and security. It’s a bold claim that warrants a closer look.
What drew me to this particular sling was the integrated MOLLE system. I was tired of jury-rigging pouches and accessories onto my existing slings. My hope was that the GrovTec offering would provide a more streamlined and secure method for carrying essential gear directly on my weapon platform.
Upon unboxing, the first thing I noticed was the quality of the materials. The nylon felt robust and the padding was noticeably thicker than some of the minimalist slings I’ve used in the past. The GrovTec locking push-button swivels appeared to be well-machined and reassuringly solid.
I considered several other slings before settling on the GrovTec. Viking Tactics VTAC Wide Padded Sling was an option, known for its adjustability, but it lacked the MOLLE integration I craved. Similarly, the Blue Force Gear Vickers Combat Applications Sling (VCAS) is a reliable option, but the GrovTec’s promise of modularity and enhanced padding won me over.
Initially, I was excited about the potential for improved comfort and gear accessibility. I did have a slight reservation about the integrated MOLLE, worried it might add unnecessary bulk. Only time and testing would tell.
Real-World Testing: Putting GrovTec US Padded Molle BalancePoint Sling w/Locking Swivels to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing ground for the GrovTec US Padded Molle BalancePoint Sling w/Locking Swivels was a weekend carbine course focused on dynamic shooting drills. The course involved a lot of transitions, movement, and manipulating the rifle in confined spaces. This presented a perfect scenario for evaluating the sling’s comfort and functionality.
The weather was typical for the Pacific Northwest, a constant drizzle that turned the range into a muddy affair. The sling performed admirably, maintaining its grip and not becoming overly saturated or slippery. The padding remained comfortable even after hours of use in damp conditions.
The initial adjustment process took a few minutes, but once dialed in, the sling provided excellent support and allowed for quick transitions between firing positions. I initially had to adjust to using the asymmetrical buckle, but its design ultimately sped up transitioning my rifle into the “ready” position. There were no immediate issues, and the locking swivels instilled confidence that my rifle was secure.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of use, including multiple range sessions, a hunting trip, and some backcountry hikes, the GrovTec sling continues to impress. The nylon webbing shows no signs of fraying or wear, and the padding remains resilient. The color hasn’t faded, despite exposure to sun and rain.
Cleaning is simple. A quick wipe-down with a damp cloth removes mud and grime. I did find a small amount of rust forming on one of the swivel locking mechanisms after getting soaked on my hunting trip, but a quick application of gun oil resolved the issue.
Compared to my older, unpadded slings, the GrovTec’s padding provides a significant improvement in comfort, especially during long days on the range or in the field. The added MOLLE system allowed me to attach a small medical pouch and a spare magazine carrier directly to the sling, reducing the amount of gear I needed to carry on my belt. The GrovTec exceeded my expectations.
