First Impressions of Googan Squad Trench Hawg
The Googan Squad Trench Hawg, designed by the Googan Squad themselves, promises to be a monster-hunting bait. This creature bait features a unique shape and flange aimed at displacing a significant amount of water, attracting the biggest fish in the lake. As an avid angler with over a decade of experience, I’m always on the lookout for innovative and effective lures that can give me an edge on the water.
I was looking for a versatile bait that could be used in a variety of conditions and for targeting larger fish. The Trench Hawg’s design intrigued me with its potential for creating significant water disturbance and triggering aggressive strikes. The Googan Squad’s reputation for designing fish-catching baits also influenced my decision to give it a try.
Upon unboxing, the Trench Hawg felt substantial and well-made. The plastic had a good texture and a noticeable scent, suggesting a quality product designed to entice fish. Compared to other creature baits I’ve used, like the Zoom Brush Hog or the Strike King Rage Tail Craw, the Trench Hawg stood out with its unique flange and overall profile. I ultimately chose the Googan Squad Trench Hawg because of its unique design and the promise of attracting larger fish through significant water displacement.
My initial impression was one of cautious optimism. I was excited to see how this bait would perform in the water, but also slightly skeptical, as many fishing lures over-promise and under-deliver.
Real-World Testing: Putting Googan Squad Trench Hawg to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Googan Squad Trench Hawg on a local lake known for its largemouth bass population. The conditions were slightly overcast with a light breeze, perfect for a day of fishing. I primarily used it on a Texas rig, working it around submerged structure and weed lines.
The Trench Hawg performed surprisingly well, even in slightly murky water. Its unique flange and shape created a noticeable vibration as it moved through the water, which I believe helped attract fish. It was relatively easy to use, requiring no special techniques beyond basic Texas rigging. On my first outing, I landed two decent-sized bass, which was encouraging.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of consistent use, the Googan Squad Trench Hawg has proven to be a reliable and effective bait. It has held up well to repeated casts and catches, showing minimal signs of wear and tear. The plastic is durable, and the scent seems to last longer than other baits I’ve used.
Cleaning is simple; a quick rinse with water is usually sufficient. Compared to my previous go-to creature baits, the Trench Hawg has consistently produced more bites and seems to be particularly effective in attracting larger fish. It has definitely outperformed my expectations.
