Let’s Talk About Galco High Ready Chest Holster, Browning Bda .45, – 1 out of 9 models
The Galco High Ready Chest Holster, Browning Bda .45, – 1 out of 9 models, from Galco, enters the chest holster market aiming to offer a comfortable and accessible carry solution for those venturing into the great outdoors. This holster is designed to keep your sidearm high and tight against your chest, out of the way of backpacks, fishing waders, or the reins of a horse, making it a compelling option for hunters, anglers, hikers, and ranchers alike. The hybrid Kydex/nylon construction, coupled with its adjustable harness system, promises a blend of durability and comfort.
My interest in the Galco High Ready Chest Holster stemmed from a recurring issue I faced while hiking in bear country. My usual hip holster interfered with my backpack’s waist belt, making access to my Browning Bda .45 slow and cumbersome. I needed a solution that would keep my firearm readily available without sacrificing comfort or mobility.
Upon unboxing, the Galco High Ready Chest Holster impressed me with its seemingly robust construction. The Kydex holster pocket felt secure, and the nylon harness appeared well-stitched and durable. The initial impression was positive, though I did notice the straps seemed a bit stiff, a concern I hoped would diminish with use.
I considered other chest holsters from Diamond D Custom Leather and GunfightersINC, but ultimately chose the Galco High Ready due to its Kydex holster pocket and adjustability. The Galco offered a more modern design and promised greater compatibility with red dot sights, a feature I plan to explore in the future. My initial excitement was tempered with a slight apprehension about the harness comfort, but I was eager to put it to the test.
Real-World Testing: Putting Galco High Ready Chest Holster, Browning Bda .45, – 1 out of 9 models to the Test
First Use Experience
My first field test of the Galco High Ready Chest Holster involved a week-long backpacking trip in the Montana backcountry. The primary goal was elk hunting, but the threat of grizzly bears was ever-present. I needed to be able to quickly and efficiently deploy my Browning Bda .45.
The Galco High Ready performed admirably in dry conditions, keeping my Browning Bda .45 secure and accessible. Drawing the weapon was intuitive and quick, aided by the rigid Kydex holster. However, during a particularly strenuous climb, I noticed some chafing under my arm from the harness strap.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Galco High Ready Chest Holster has proven to be a reliable piece of gear. The Kydex holster shows no signs of wear, and the nylon harness has softened slightly, improving comfort. Occasional cleaning with a damp cloth is all it takes to keep the holster in good condition.
Compared to my previous hip holster setup, the Galco High Ready is a significant improvement in terms of accessibility and comfort. It keeps my Browning Bda .45 readily available and out of the way, providing peace of mind in bear country. Although not perfect, it is a solid choice for chest carry.
