FoxPro Loaded Gun Howler Combo Coyote Hand Call Review

Let’s Dive into FoxPro Loaded Gun Howler Combo Coyote Hand Call

The FoxPro Loaded Gun Howler Combo Coyote Hand Call is a trio of mouth calls designed to elevate your coyote hunting game. Manufactured by FoxPro, this combo includes the Top Gun, Smokin’ Gun, and Young Gun howlers, each crafted to produce distinct and realistic coyote vocalizations. Having spent over a decade honing my skills in the field, I’m always seeking tools that offer versatility and authenticity, and this combo immediately piqued my interest.

For years, I’ve relied on electronic callers, but I was increasingly frustrated with their limitations regarding battery life and realistic sound variations. I needed a reliable, compact, and diverse calling solution that could adapt to changing hunting scenarios. The FoxPro Loaded Gun Howler Combo Coyote Hand Call promised that adaptability.

Upon unboxing, I was immediately impressed by the compact size and lightweight feel of each call. The calls felt durable, well-constructed, and designed for easy use. Compared to bulkier diaphragm calls I’ve used, these felt much easier to manipulate straight out of the package. I’ve used single diaphragm calls from other brands like Primos, and while effective, they lacked the tonal range offered by this FoxPro combo.

I was excited to hit the field and experience the nuances each call offered. My initial impression was one of cautious optimism, eager to see if these calls could deliver on their promise of versatility and realistic coyote sounds.

Real-World Testing: Putting FoxPro Loaded Gun Howler Combo Coyote Hand Call to the Test

First Use Experience

I first tested the FoxPro Loaded Gun Howler Combo Coyote Hand Call on a late-season coyote hunt in the high desert of Nevada. The weather was cold and dry, with a slight wind that tested the call’s projection. I rotated between the Top Gun, Smokin’ Gun, and Young Gun howlers during different sets, attempting to simulate a pack hierarchy.

The ease of use was immediately apparent; the calls required minimal practice to produce convincing howls and distress sounds. The volume I could achieve with minimal effort also stood out. After about an hour, I was rewarded with a response. A lone coyote appeared on the ridge, drawn in by the “Young Gun’s” distress cries.

There was one surprise. The calls produced a little condensation when the temperature dropped below freezing.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several weeks of consistent use during both scouting trips and hunts, the FoxPro Loaded Gun Howler Combo Coyote Hand Call continued to impress. The calls still produced the same clear, consistent tones with no noticeable degradation in sound quality. I experienced no wear and tear on the mouthpieces despite frequent use.

The calls are easily cleaned with warm water and mild soap, maintaining hygiene and performance. Compared to my electronic caller, the FoxPro combo requires virtually no maintenance. In my experience, the versatility of the FoxPro combo significantly outperforms my previous reliance on electronic calls, especially in areas with dense vegetation where sound projection is crucial.
