I was on the hunt for a buckshot load that I could depend on for home defense and potentially for hog hunting in thick brush. Having experienced inconsistent patterns and unreliable cycling with some budget brands in the past, I was ready to invest in something I could trust. That’s when I came across the Fiocchi offering.
Upon receiving the Fiocchi Hi Velocity Field Box 12 Gauge 1BK 9 Pellets 2.75in Shotgun Buckshot Ammunition, the first thing that struck me was the quality of the packaging. The box felt sturdy, and the individual shells looked well-constructed, a visual testament to Fiocchi’s reputation for quality ammunition. The 2.75-inch shell length is standard, making it compatible with a wide range of 12-gauge shotguns.
Compared to some cheaper, bulk-packed buckshot I’ve used, the Fiocchi shells exuded a sense of precision. Brands like Winchester or Remington offer similar loads, but the Fiocchi’s price point, especially with the 21% discount, made it an attractive choice. Plus, I’d heard good things about Fiocchi’s consistency.
My initial impression was one of cautious optimism. The promise of Hi Velocity combined with the trusted Fiocchi name suggested a potent and reliable load. Now it was time to see if the performance lived up to the hype.
Real-World Testing: Putting **Fiocchi Hi Velocity Field Box 12 Gauge 1BK 9 Pellets 2.75in Shotgun Buckshot Ammunition

First Use Experience
I took the Fiocchi Hi Velocity Field Box 12 Gauge 1BK 9 Pellets 2.75in Shotgun Buckshot Ammunition to my local shooting range for its first test run. I was primarily interested in pattern density and felt recoil. The weather was mild and dry, providing ideal conditions for accurate assessment.
I fired the Fiocchi buckshot from my Mossberg 500 at distances of 7, 15, and 25 yards. At 7 yards, the pattern was a tight, devastating cluster, roughly the size of a fist. Moving out to 15 yards, the pattern opened up slightly, remaining within a torso-sized target.
At 25 yards, the spread was more significant, with a few pellets straying outside the target area. However, the majority still remained within a reasonable grouping. Recoil was noticeable but manageable, about what I’d expect from a Hi Velocity load, and comparable to other similar offerings. There were no malfunctions or failures to extract.
Extended Use & Reliability
After the initial range session, I continued to use the Fiocchi Hi Velocity Field Box 12 Gauge 1BK 9 Pellets 2.75in Shotgun Buckshot Ammunition over several months during various training exercises. I estimate I’ve fired around 100 rounds. This included a self-defense class and a simulated home-invasion scenario.
The Fiocchi buckshot has consistently performed reliably, with no failures to feed, fire, or eject. The shells have held up well during storage, showing no signs of degradation or moisture damage. Cleaning my shotgun after each use was straightforward, with no excessive residue or fouling left behind by the Fiocchi ammunition.
Compared to some cheaper bulk buckshot I’ve used in the past, the Fiocchi offers a noticeable improvement in pattern consistency and overall reliability. While some might consider other premium buckshot loads, the Fiocchi’s consistent performance and relatively affordable price have made it a preferred choice for my needs.
