Let’s Dive into Fiocchi Golden Pheasant 28 Gauge 1 1/16oz 3in 7 1/2 Shot 2 Size Shotgun Ammunition 283GP75 38% Off
The Fiocchi Golden Pheasant 28 Gauge 1 1/16oz 3in 7 1/2 Shot 2 Size Shotgun Ammunition 283GP75 38% Off is a premium shotshell designed specifically for upland game hunting, particularly pheasant. Manufactured by Fiocchi, this ammunition promises tight patterns and reliable performance, thanks to its nickel-plated shot and optimized design. It’s aimed at hunters who demand consistent results and clean kills in the field.
For years, I’d struggled with 28 gauge loads that just didn’t deliver the knockdown power I needed for pheasant at longer ranges. Too often, birds would fly off wounded, leading to frustrating chases and ultimately, less ethical hunts. I was specifically looking for a 28 gauge load that could extend my effective range and deliver consistent patterns.
My first impression upon unboxing the Fiocchi Golden Pheasant shells was that they looked and felt like a premium product. The vibrant golden hulls and the uniformly sized shot peeking from the crimp gave a sense of quality. They felt solid and well-constructed, a definite step up from the budget loads I’d used in the past.
I considered a few alternatives, including the Winchester AA and the Federal Premium Upland High Over All. Ultimately, I chose the Fiocchi Golden Pheasant because of the nickel-plated shot and the positive reviews regarding pattern density. I was hoping for a load that would bridge the gap between the smaller 28 gauge and the more powerful 20 gauge.
Initially, I was cautiously optimistic; I’ve been burned by fancy-looking ammo before. However, there was a distinct feeling that this ammunition was different, that it might actually live up to its promises of superior performance.
Real-World Testing: Putting Fiocchi Golden Pheasant 28 Gauge 1 1/16oz 3in 7 1/2 Shot 2 Size Shotgun Ammunition 283GP75 38% Off to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing ground for the Fiocchi Golden Pheasant was a pheasant hunting trip in South Dakota. The weather was typical for late fall: crisp mornings and blustery winds. This environment provided a challenging test for the ammunition’s performance.
The Fiocchi shells performed admirably even in windy conditions. I was able to consistently knock down pheasants at ranges of 30-35 yards. The 7 1/2 shot seemed to maintain its velocity and pattern integrity well, even when fighting against the wind.
These shells were easy to use and cycled smoothly through my Beretta Silver Pigeon. There was no noticeable recoil difference compared to other 28 gauge loads. They felt natural and intuitive from the first shot.
The only initial surprise was how clean the Fiocchi shells burned. There was noticeably less residue in my shotgun’s barrel compared to the cheaper, promotional loads I had been using previously.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use across multiple hunting trips, the Fiocchi Golden Pheasant ammunition has consistently impressed me. The performance has remained reliably high. These are now my go-to shells for pheasant hunting.
After firing hundreds of rounds, I’ve observed no issues with durability or degradation of performance. The nickel plating on the shot seems to protect it effectively from deformation. This ensures consistent patterns even after being jostled around in a game bag.
Maintenance is straightforward. Since they burn relatively clean, a simple bore snake run through the barrel after each use is usually sufficient. The hulls eject cleanly and consistently.
Compared to my previous experiences with other 28 gauge loads, the Fiocchi Golden Pheasant undeniably outperforms them in terms of range, pattern density, and clean burning characteristics. The increased confidence in my shots has led to more ethical and enjoyable hunts.
