The Fiocchi Field Dynamics Aero 12 Gauge 7/8 oz 2.75in Shotgun Slugs Ammunition
12LESLUG 47% Off represents a compelling option for shotgun owners seeking accuracy and controlled recoil in a slug. Manufactured by Fiocchi, these slugs combine a lighter projectile with an innovative aero wad design, promising enhanced stability and performance. Designed for both rifled and smooth bore barrels, these slugs cater to a diverse range of applications, from hunting medium game to law enforcement training.
My quest for these slugs started with a specific need: a reliable and accurate slug for deer hunting in areas with restrictive range limitations. I was looking for a slug that would minimize over-penetration while still delivering sufficient stopping power at moderate distances. The Fiocchi Aero slugs, with their lighter 7/8 oz weight and claims of improved accuracy, seemed like the ideal solution.
Upon unboxing, the first thing I noticed was the clean and consistent appearance of the ammunition. The attached wad looked robust and well-designed, suggesting a quality build. The slugs felt lighter than the standard 1 oz slugs I was accustomed to, which piqued my interest in their potential recoil reduction.
I considered other options, including the Remington Slugger and Federal TruBall slugs, but ultimately chose the Fiocchi Aero due to its unique aero wad design and the positive user feedback regarding its accuracy and reduced recoil. Remington and Federal are great brands, but I wanted to see if this new design was all the hype. I picked Fiocchi Field Dynamics Aero 12 Gauge 7/8 oz 2.75in Shotgun Slugs Ammunition over those due to my desire to have reduced recoil and the aero wad technology.
My initial impression was one of cautious optimism. The Fiocchi Aero slugs looked promising, and I was eager to see how they would perform in the field. The promise of increased accuracy and reduced recoil was certainly exciting, but I remained skeptical until I could put them through their paces.

First Use Experience
My initial testing of the Fiocchi Field Dynamics Aero 12 Gauge 7/8 oz 2.75in Shotgun Slugs Ammunition took place at my local shooting range. The range offered a controlled environment to assess accuracy and recoil. The weather was typical for late fall: cold and slightly damp, with a light wind.
The slugs were surprisingly easy to use, loading smoothly into my Mossberg 500. The recoil was noticeably lighter than with standard 1 oz slugs, making follow-up shots quicker and more comfortable. Accuracy was also impressive, with consistent groupings at 50 yards, tighter than I had experienced with other slugs from my smooth bore barrel. After the first few shots, I was getting a feel for the round.
There were no immediate issues after the first session. The slugs fed reliably, and the primers ignited consistently. I was, however, surprised by how much cleaner the barrel was after shooting these slugs compared to some other brands I’ve used.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of use and approximately 50 rounds fired, the Fiocchi Field Dynamics Aero 12 Gauge 7/8 oz 2.75in Shotgun Slugs Ammunition has proven to be a reliable performer. The slugs have maintained their accuracy, and the recoil remains manageable. There is nothing worse than a slug that is all over the place.
Durability hasn’t been an issue. The ammunition has been stored in a dry environment, and there are no signs of corrosion or degradation. The shells themselves appear well-constructed and have held up well during handling and loading. These are built to last, no question about it.
Maintenance has been minimal. As mentioned earlier, the Fiocchi Aero slugs seem to burn cleaner than other brands, reducing the amount of residue in the barrel. A quick cleaning after each range session has been sufficient to keep my shotgun in optimal condition.
Compared to my previous experiences with other slugs, the Fiocchi Aero slugs have definitely outperformed them in terms of recoil and cleanliness. While some premium slugs might offer slightly better accuracy at longer ranges, the Fiocchi Aero slugs strike a great balance between performance, recoil, and price. For deer hunting inside of 100 yards, these are ideal.
